Effects of pneumoperitoneum with carbon dioxide and helium on renal function and morphology in rats [PDF]

open access: yesActa Cirúrgica Brasileira, 2013
PURPOSE: To evaluate the effects of pneumoperitoneum with carbon dioxide and helium on renal function and morphology in a rat model. METHODS: Twenty four rats were randomized into three groups (n=8): gasless insufflation ('open', Pressure=0 mmHg), carbon

Hemodynamic Effects of Prolonged Apneic Oxygenation in Laryngologic Surgery: A Randomized Controlled Pilot Trial

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Limited data exist on cardiocirculatory responses associated with extended periods of apnea during administration of high‐flow nasal oxygen for laryngologic surgery (apneic oxygenation with HFNO, AO‐HFNO). The possibility of hemodynamic compromise in the settings of acute hypercapnia, respiratory acidosis, hyperoxia, and IV ...

Interventional Radiology Society of Australasia Quality Care Guidelines for Renal Tumour Ablation in Australia and New Zealand

open access: yesJournal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Oncology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Image‐guided thermal ablation (radiofrequency, cryo‐ and microwave ablation) is a safe and effective primary treatment for small renal mass and localised renal cell carcinoma ≤ 4 cm (T1a) with long‐term cancer‐specific survival rates equivalent to surgical resection (Level A).

Prospective development and validation of an objective classification for difficult facemask ventilation: the MASCAN score

open access: yesAnaesthesia, EarlyView.
Summary Introduction Difficult facemask ventilation is an entity that lacks a robust definition, leading to inconsistent identification in clinical practice and research. The aim of this study was to develop and validate an objective classification and numeric score for difficult facemask ventilation. Methods Four hundred patients who required tracheal

Shoulder‐Tip Pain After Laparoscopic Surgery: A Narrative Review of Intraperitoneal Anaesthesia

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Shoulder‐tip pain is a common and distressing side effect following laparoscopic surgery. Standard systemic analgesic regimens are used to manage postoperative pain but are often associated with side effects such as nausea and vomiting.

The Effect of Nexpowder in Reducing Post‐ESD Coagulation Syndrome in Proximal Colon Lesions: A Retrospective Multicenter Study

open access: yesJournal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is an established curative treatment for lateral spreading tumors and early colorectal cancer, but it can cause procedure‐related complications such as post‐ESD coagulation syndrome (PECS), which may increase healthcare utilization, prolong hospitalization, and raise medical costs.

Is Routine Interruption of Direct Oral Anticoagulants Necessary during Colorectal Endoscopic Mucosal Resection and Hot Snare Polypectomy? A Multicenter Propensity‐Matched Study

open access: yesJournal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Colorectal endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and hot snare polypectomy (HSP) are high‐bleeding‐risk endoscopic procedures, and most clinical guidelines recommend stopping direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) temporarily or switching to heparin‐bridging therapy (HBT). However, existing evidence is largely derived from cohorts

Brain strain: Blood flow and metabolism in environmental extremes

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract This narrative review compares and contrasts the most commonly encountered environmental stressors on human cerebrovascular functioning. From high altitude and space, extreme apnoea, heat and cold stress, the impact of these stressors on the regulation of cerebral blood flow (CBF) and oxygen metabolism (CMRO2${\mathrm{CM}}{{\mathrm{R}}_ ...

Effects of Topical Administration of Bupivacaine HCl to the Ovarian Pedicle on Postoperative Pain, Antioxidant Enzyme Activity and Inflammatory Cytokines in Dogs Undergoing Laparoscopic Ovariectomy

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 5, September 2026.
Topical bupivacaine HCl applied to the ovarian pedicle during laparoscopic ovariectomy in dogs significantly reduced early postoperative UMPS pain scores and modulated antioxidant enzyme activity (SOD, CAT). However, systemic pro‐inflammatory cytokine levels (IL‐1β, IL‐6 and TNF‐α) remained unchanged between groups.
