Glacially derived iron is more bioavailable to Antarctic phytoplankton than other sources

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
The bioavailability of iron from different sources to phytoplankton, driving substantial carbon dioxide uptake of the large blooms downstream of South Georgia Island, remains unknown.

Robust C–C bonded porous networks with chemically designed functionalities for improved CO2 capture from flue gas

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2016
Effective carbon dioxide (CO2) capture requires solid, porous sorbents with chemically and thermally stable frameworks. Herein, we report two new carbon–carbon bonded porous networks that were synthesized through metal-free Knoevenagel nitrile–aldol ...

Intrinsic Coordination Architecture Governing Selectivity Divergence Between Extended and Single‐Site Electrocatalysts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Catalyst coordination acts as a loaded dice biasing reaction selectivity. Single‐atom site catalysts lock intermediates in exposed configurations, enabling continued hydrogenation and favoring oxygen‐retaining products. In contrast, extended metal surfaces fully coordinate and shield reactive centers, promoting deoxygenation pathways. This work reveals

FFP2 induced breathing resistance does not affect metabolism and well-being during brisk walking and stair climbing - a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesJournal of Occupational Medicine and Toxicology
Objectives N95 or Type II filtering face pieces (FFP2) are often worn during work hours or on public transportation to prevent airborne infection. The aim of this randomized controlled crossover study is to assess the impact of FFP2 induced breathing ...

A Van-Der-Waals picture for metabolic networks from MaxEnt modeling: inherent bistability and elusive coexistence

open access: yes, 2017
In this work maximum entropy distributions in the space of steady states of metabolic networks are defined upon constraining the first and second moment of the growth rate. Inherent bistability of fast and slow phenotypes, akin to a Van-Der Waals picture,

Integrating ZnO/Ag2O@g‐C3N4‐Based Nanocomposites Into a Carrageenan Matrix to Efficiently Remove Heavy Metals From Water

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This research focused on characterizing graphitic carbon nitride (g‐C3N4) nanocomposites incorporated with ZnO and Ag2O nanoparticles, and carrageenan to remove heavy metals. The ZnO/Ag2O@ g‐C3N4 and ZnO/Ag2O/g‐C3N4@Carr nanocomposites demonstrated thermal stability of 97.40% (108.81°C) and 82.80% (188.99°C) for TGA.

Exploring the Potential of Zero‐Dimensional Carbon Nanomaterials in Photoluminescent, Electrochemiluminescent and Electrochemical Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Zero‐dimensional carbon nanomaterials are presented as multifunctional platforms linking structure, property, and sensing performance. Surface engineering and heteroatom doping modulate electron‐transfer and luminescent behavior, enabling electrochemical, photoluminescent, and electrochemiluminescent detection. Fundamental design principles, analytical

Solar-driven carbon dioxide fixation using photosynthetic semiconductor bio-hybrids. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Solar-driven conversion of carbon dioxide to value-added carbon products is an ambitious objective of ongoing research efforts. However, high overpotential, low selectivity and poor CO2 mass transfer plague purely inorganic electrocatalysts.
