SU(4) and SU(2) Kondo Effects in Carbon Nanotube Quantum Dots

open access: yes, 2007
We study the SU(4) Kondo effect in carbon nanotube quantum dots, where doubly degenerate orbitals form 4-electron ``shells''. The SU(4) Kondo behavior is investigated for one, two and three electrons in the topmost shell.

Population of Nonmetallic Inclusions in Liquid High‐Silicon Electrical Steel in Contact With MgO–C Refractories Based on Recyclates and Environmentally Friendly Binders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The formation of nonmetallic inclusions (NMIs) was investigated in this study, carrying out immersion tests for 30 min at a temperature of 1600°C with liquid high‐silicon electrical steel (Si ≈ 3 mass‐%) and different MgO–C refractories. Conventional MgO–C refractories were considered, as well as MgO–C refractories containing MgO–C recyclate and ...

Copper and nickel doped carbon dots for rapid and sensitive fluorescent turn-off detection of bilirubin

open access: yesScientific Reports
Carbon dots doped with metals and non-metals have gained much popularity due to the enhancement in their optical and electronic properties. In this study, polyethyleneimine-functionalized transition metal (nickel or copper) doped carbon dots (CD, NiCD ...

Carbon Dots as Bioactive Antifungal Nanomaterials

open access: yesChemMedChem
AbstractNowadays, the widespread diffusion of infections caused by opportunistic fungi represents a demanding threat for global health security. This phenomenon has also worsened by the emergence of contagious events in hospitalisation environments and by the fact that many fungi have developed harsh and serious resistance mechanisms to the traditional

In Situ Constructed Magnetic Core‐Shell Hydrogen‐Bonded Organic Framework‐on‐Metal–Organic Framework Structure: an Efficient Catalyst for Peroxymonosulfate Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, a magnetic core‐shell catalyst (HOF‐on‐Fe3O4/ZIF‐67) is successfully synthesized, consisting of a metal–organic framework (ZIF‐67) with magnetic Fe3O4 as the core and a porous hydrogen‐bonded organic framework (HOF) as the shell. The catalyst efficiently activated peroxymonosulfate, resulting in rapid and effective removal of water ...

Detection of ferric ions by nitrogen and sulfur co-doped potato-derived carbon quantum dots as a fluorescent probe

open access: yesMaterials Research Express
This paper reports the detection of ferric ions (Fe ^3+ ) based on nitrogen and sulfur co-doped carbon quantum dots. These nitrogen and sulfur co-doped carbon quantum dots were synthesized via a hydrothermal route using northern Shaanxi potatoes as ...

Non-Fermi liquid behavior in transport across carbon nanotube quantum dots

open access: yes, 2006
A low energy-theory for non-linear transport in finite-size single-wall carbon nanotubes, based on a microscopic model for the interacting pz electrons and successive bosonization, is presented.
