Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

Seasonal drought poses significant risks to agricultural productivity in humid areas. However, research on crop water requirement (CWR) and irrigation water requirement (IWR) under such conditions remains limited, particularly in the Yangtze River Basin ...

Production of MgO/TiC Composites From MgO‐C Recyclates Using Spark Plasma Sintering
Using the spark plasma sintering technique, MgO/TiC composites are manufactured from recycled MgO‐C refractories stemming from the steel production that were mixed with titanium powder. This article shows, how the size of the Ti grains and their distribution in the powder mixture affect the local carbon concentration in TiC.

The physics and chemistry of circumstellar envelopes of S-stars on the AGB
The S-stars have been suggested to be a brief transitional phase as stars evolve from oxygen-rich M-type stars into carbon stars, through the dredge up of carbon from He-shell burning.

Viktoriia Shtefan, Thorgund Nemec, Ute Hempel, Annett Gebert and coworkers demonstrate that anodic treatment of Ti–Cu‐based metallic glass in a nontoxic pyrophosphate electrolyte forms a protective bilayered Ti/Zr‐oxide film enriched with Cu nanocrystals.

Counting all the costs: recognising the carbon subsidy to polluting energy [PDF]
Excluding the cost of carbon pollution from decision-making creates market distortions and the undervaluation of emission reduction, argues this report.

Gas and Dust in the Cloverleaf Quasar at Redshift 2.5
We observed the upper fine structure line of neutral carbon, CI(2-1), the CO(3-2) line and the 1.2mm continuum emission from H1413+117 (Cloverleaf quasar, z=2.5) using the IRAM interferometer. Together with the detection of the lower fine structure line (
