Interactions of tree size, competition, and tree species drive carbon accumulation in subtropical mixed forests: A case study of the coniferous-broadleaved mixed forest in Tianmu Mountain

open access: yesEcological Indicators
Enhancing forests’ carbon storage is crucial in combating climate change. Factors like tree size, species, and competition affect carbon sequestration, but their interactive dynamics and impacts on carbon accumulation are not fully understood.

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Centennial spatiotemporal evolution of AGC in subtropical forests and key driving factors − based on process modeling and geography detector

open access: yesEcological Indicators
Forests are the primary carbon reservoirs in terrestrial ecosystems and play a key role in the global carbon cycle. However, the future of the forest carbon cycle and its storage is uncertain due to climate change and socio-economic development.

Grid expansion planning for carbon emissions reduction [PDF]

open access: yes2012 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting, 2012
In recent years the grid expansion planning problem has become increasingly complex and challenging. The integration of renewable generation is a source of many of these challenges. These challenges often include a deficiency in transmission capacity in regions with high potential for renewable energy production. Historically, this lack of capacity has

Bimetallic (NiFe) and Trimetallic (NiFeCr) Nanoalloys from Metal Oxides Using a Microwave Hydrogen Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Bimetallic (NiFe) and trimetallic (NiFeCr) nanoalloys (NAs) are synthesized using corresponding oxide mixtures using microwave hydrogen plasma within a few milliseconds. The process simultaneously 1) reduces metal oxides to metals; 2) downsizes the particles from micrometers to nanometers; and 3) blends the metals to form NAs.

Alignment of energy transition and water resources under the carbon neutrality target in China

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Environmental Sciences
Significant energy transition would be needed in China under the carbon neutrality target. Since it would have important impacts on water resource through increased usage, understanding the water demand under specific climate change targets could enable ...

Reducing the embodied carbon of construction projects through a carbon emission encompassed tender [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Fast speed construction development is a key contributor to excessive carbon emissions. Apart from the operational emissions of construction facilities, more and more clients and designers are concerned about the carbon emissions embodied in construction

Influence of Sample Preparation and Processing Procedures on the Thermal Diffusivity of MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.
