Supercritical water deasphalting and desulphurization of heavy fuel oil with comprehensive molecular‐level analysis and techno‐economic analysis

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Supercritical water deasphalting. Abstract The removal of sulphur from heavy fuel oil (HFO) is essential to address environmental concerns and comply with the stringent regulations imposed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2020. Previously, the acceptable limit for sulphur was 3.5 wt.%, but it was recently changed to 0.5 wt.%.

Investigating the Cytoskeleton of DRGs Using Cryo‐Electron Microscopy and Deep Learning

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We describe a method for determining the ultrastructural organization of axons and varicosities of cultured dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons using cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo‐EM). Cryo‐EM reveals the dimensions, proximity, and overall organization of biological specimens in a near‐native state, avoiding artifacts of fixation and ...

Carbon production and export from Biscayne Bay, Florida. II. Episodic export of organic carbon

Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science, 1983
Abstract Seasonal meteorological events of high wind energy are important in the export of organic carbon from Biscayne Bay, Florida, by altering circulation and tidal flushing patterns coincident with increased resuspension. The accumulation of detrital organic carbon in the bay during productive summer months with light south-east breezes is ...

Increasing riverine export of dissolved organic carbon from China

Global Change Biology, 2023
AbstractRiver transport of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) to the ocean is a crucial but poorly quantified regional carbon cycle component. Large uncertainties remaining on the riverine DOC export from China, as well as its trend and drivers of change, have challenged the reconciliation between atmosphere‐based and land‐based estimates of China's land ...

Nitrogen and carbon export from urban areas through removal and export of litterfall

Environmental Pollution, 2015
We found that up to 52 ± 17% of residential litterfall carbon (C) and nitrogen (N; 390.6 kg C and 6.5 kg N ha(-1) yr(-1)) is exported through yard waste removed from the City of Boston, which is equivalent to more than half of annual N outputs as gas loss (i.e. denitrification) or leaching.
