Tension of carbonization for carbon fiber
Polymer Engineering & Science, 1994AbstractThe mechanical properties of carbon fiber, especially tensile modulus, are closely related to the orientation of crystals. Hence, the stretching of carbon fiber during carbonization is of importance. In this study, the tension arm between the carbonization furnaces was used to stretch carbon fiber.

AbstractWe briefly review some methods recently proposed to make films and fibers of preferentially oriented carbon nanotubes. We discuss in more detail a simple spinning process which consists in dispersing the nanotubes in a surfactant solution, re-condensing the nanotubes in the flow of a coagulating polymer solution to form a nanotube mesh, and ...

Electrochemistry at carbon fibers
Analytica Chimica Acta, 1981Carbon fibers are proposed as a support electrode for a mercury film electrode. The response of these electrodes is evaluated for use in differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry. The mercury film is deposited in situ in aqueous solution and used to quantify cadmium in solutions of cadmium salts and organo cadmium compounds in the 1–10 μg l-1 ...

Carbon fiber (CF) is increasingly attracting the interest of composites industry for future applications in automotive, wind, and transportation. The reason of this interest is mainly based on CF's unique properties. They are strong and durable in addition to light in weight. All of these cannot be replaced by a single fiber type. In this chapter, each

Abstract : Various spinning trials of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and PAN/carbon nanotube (CNT) fibers were conducted using single- and bi-component spinning to obtain precursor fiber for carbonization. Materials parameters, such as homo- vs co-polymer, as well as different molecular weight polymers were investigated.
