ABSTRACT In this study, the influences of bidirectional carbon fiber–reinforced polymer (CFRP) confinement along with polypropylene fibers on the impact resistance of concrete samples were experimentally studied. Forty-nine concrete cylindrical samples (with compressive strengths of 20, 30, and 40 MPa) with polypropylene fibers (with ...

Solvothermal recovery of carbon fibers from thermoset polymer-based carbon fiber reinforced polymers
Journal of Reinforced Plastics and Composites, 2015Clean, undamaged carbon fibers were easily separated from thermoset epoxy-based carbon fiber reinforced polymers through a two-step solvothermal method by using propanol or benzyl alcohol as solvents. The recovered carbon fibers were characterized by thermal gravity analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and ...

Repair of B31.1 Fiber Reinforced Polymer Piping System Using Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer
Volume 3: Design and Analysis, 2019Abstract This paper describes the use of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) for the repair of leaking Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) pipe. The existing piping system, which is used for slurry transport, consisted of straight pipe, reducers, and elbows connected by bell and spigot joints.

Carbon fiber reinforced polymer integrated antenna module
2016 IEEE-APS Topical Conference on Antennas and Propagation in Wireless Communications (APWC), 2016Rising demand for vehicular communication and cooperative movement have led to an increase of vehicle mounted antennas. A carbon fiber reinforced polymer cavity is presented, that can be integrated into the vehicle chassis. The concealed cavity is large enough to house the anticipated antennas for present and future vehicular communication.

Micro drilling of carbon fiber reinforced polymer
Composite Structures, 2019Abstract In this paper, an assessment of micro holes quality in carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite was based on thrust force and damage formation. Carbon fiber T300 reinforced polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) was micro drilled with 0.6 mm diameter twist drill under three different strategies: direct, supported and pilot drilling.

Carbon Fiber Reinforced Shape Memory Polymer Composites
Journal of Intelligent Materials Systems and Structures, 2000In this paper we present results on the deformation of carbon fiber reinforced shape memory polymer matrix composites for deployable space structure applications. The composites were processed using resin transfer molding or a pre-impregnated (pre-preg) laminate press, with both satin and plain weave fiber architectures.

Abstract This paper presents a multi-objective assessment comparing the performance of natural fiber reinforced polymer (NFRP) and carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) in the flexural strengthening of RC beams. As NFRP laminates and concrete have similar elastic modulus, the NFRP-strengthened RC beams failed by FRP rupture, achieving higher ...

Numerical Relaxation Analysis of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers
Macromolecular SymposiaAbstractCarbon fiber reinforced polymers are widely used to manufacture aerospace deployable structures. These structures are folded in launch configuration and then deployed in space for operational activities. Since the stowage of deployable structures in folded configuration occurs for long time, the understanding of the viscoelastic properties of ...

Effective Splices for a Carbon Fiber–Reinforced Polymer
Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2009Carbon fiber–reinforced polymer (CFRP) materials have been used successfully to strengthen reinforced concrete bridges and structures. Recently, a new high modulus CFRP strengthening system was developed to increase the allowable load carrying capacity and to enhance the serviceability of steel bridges and structures.
