Applicability of FT-IR Techniques and Goniometry on Characterization of Carbon Fiber Surfaces
Carbon fibers have been widely used as structural reinforcement in aeronautical composites, because of their exceptional mechanical properties. However, carbon fibers present few polar groups on their surfaces inducing a weak interaction with some ...

Prospects for using carbon-carbon composites for EMI shielding [PDF]
Since pyrolyzed carbon has a higher electrical conductivity than most polymers, carbon-carbon composites would be expected to have higher electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding ability than polymeric resin composites.

Modification of the morphology, porosity and surface chemistry of lignin-based electrospun carbon materials [PDF]
Lignin is a biopolymer that can be found as the main component of plants. It is obtained as a coproduct in the papermaking and biofuel industries. Owing to its high carbon and aromatic content, high availability and reduced cost, it is an excellent ...

Quantitative Fiber Orientation Analysis of Carbon Fiber Sheet Molding Compounds using Polarization Imaging and X-Ray Computed Tomography [PDF]
For the quality inspection of carbon fiber sheet molding compounds, polarization imaging is a promising alternative to more established methods like computed tomography, since it is cheaper, faster, and provides a larger field-of-view. For uni- and bidirectional carbon fiber reinforced composite materials, machine vision cameras with on-chip polarized ...

Evaluating the System Compliance in Testing Carbon Nanotube Fibers [PDF]
System compliances of two testing machines (Keysight T150 and Instron 3365) were studied for the tensile testing of carbon nanotube (CNT) fibers. Due to the different gripping methods, the T150's system compliance was nearly zero, while that of the Instron was nonnegligible.
