Recycling of carbon fibers - neo-ecology through innovative paper technology

open access: yes, 2023
156157To reduce the CO2footprint, the Fraunhofer IGCV research with a state-of-the-art wetlaid nonwovens machine for recycling carbon fibers. The production processes are similar to those of a paper manufacturing machine.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Flexible three-dimensional carbon cloth/carbon fibers/NiCo2O4 composite electrode materials for high-performance all-solid-state electrochemical capacitors

open access: yes, 2017
A flexible three-dimensional carbon cloth/carbon fibers/NiCo2O4 composite electrode is prepared via a two step method: first growth carbon fibers on flexible carbon cloth; second coating NiCo2O4 on the carbon cloth/carbon fibers composite.

Designing Materials and Processes for Strong Polyacrylonitrile Precursor Fibers

open access: yes, 2021
Although polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based carbon fibers have been successfully commercialized owing to their excellent material properties, their actual mechanical performance is still much lower than the theoretical values.

Effect of the addition of nano carbon black on the interfacial reactions in the short carbon fiber reinforced SiC-BN-ZrC-ZrB2 composites

open access: yesCarbon Trends, 2022
Interfacial reactions and their control are crucial for improving the performance of short carbon fiber (Csf) reinforced SiC-BN-ZrC-ZrB2 composites. To clarify whether nano carbon black (NCB) could prevent these reactions, Csf/SiC–NCB, Csf/BN–NCB, Csf ...
