Gantries for carbon ions

Health and Technology
PurposeThis article summarizes the short lecture on gantries given at the "Hadrontherapy: status and perspectives. Development of a hadrontherapy facility: learning from the existing" event. Methods and materialsAn introduction to gantries is given describing what a gantry is and which are the main difficulties and choices for an ion gantry.

On the Energetics of Ions in Carbon and Gold Nanotubes

ChemPhysChem, 2015
AbstractWe investigate the insertion of halide and alkali atoms into narrow single‐walled carbon nanotubes with diameters <9 Å by density functional theory; both chiral and non‐chiral tubes are considered. The atoms are stored in the form of ions; the concomitant charge transfer affects the band structure and makes originally semiconducting tubes ...

Ion implantation in tetrahedral amorphous carbon

Physical Review B, 1995
Tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C) is a dense form of amorphous carbon with a structure consisting of a highly tetrahedral bonding network. Approximately 20% of the atoms in ta-C are ${\mathit{sp}}^{2}$ hybridized and the presence of these sites plays an important role in the electrical and optical properties of the material.
