Characterization of bioacceptable carbon materials

Clinical Materials, 1990
Bioacceptable carbon films deposited with a new low temperature technique have been investigated using Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Our results reveal a substantial similarity between the low temperature deposited film and the well-known bioacceptable low temperature isotropic (LTI) pyrocarbon.

Biocompatibility of carbon-carbon materials: Blood tolerability

Biomaterials, 1989
Carbon-carbon composites are well known in the field of aerospace technology. Such composites have been proposed to be used as biomaterials, particularly in contact with blood. To evaluate their haemocompatibility, samples were tested in vivo and in vitro, using radiotracers.

Materials property definition and generation for carbon-carbon and carbon phenolic materials

23rd Joint Propulsion Conference, 1987
A data base program to generate statistically significant material-property data for carbon-carbon and carbon phenolic materials to be used in designs of Space Shuttle is described. The program, which will provide data necessary for thermal and stress modeling of Shuttle nozzle and exit cone structures, includes evaluation of tension, compression ...

Introduction to Carbon Materials

2014
Our own existence witnesses the peculiar role played by carbon among all atoms of the periodic table. The energy levels of the various bonding hybridizations of the carbon atom are so close that different configurations can exist in normal earth environments, bringing about life. The various hybridizations have an impact on the structure and properties
