Nanofibrous microspheres via emulsion gelation and carbonization

Chemical Communications, 2015
Nanofibrous hydrogel microspheres are formed by pH gelation in emulsion droplets, which can then be freeze-dried and carbonized to produce nanofibrous carbon microspheres, showing high performance as electrode materials for supercapacitors.

Facile functionalization of HTC-derived carbon microspheres

Chemical Communications, 2012
Surfaces of HTC-derived carbons were functionalized using dienophiles such as maleimide (MI), tetracyanoethylene (TCNE), and 4,5-dicyano-1,3-dithiol-2-one (DCDTO). DCDTO-functionalized carbons were then hydrolyzed to yield thiol-functionalized carbons, which were used to perform conjugate addition on the carbon surface.

Preparation of Petaloid Microspheres of Basic Magnesium Carbonate

Langmuir, 2007
The synthesis of basic magnesium carbonate was examined under ultrasonic irradiation and was performed by the soda ash method using magnesium sulfate and sodium carbonate as starting materials. The particulate product was evaluated using SEM observations.

Supercapacitive Properties of PEDOT and Carbon Colloidal Microspheres

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2009
The synthesis and characterization of a new PEDOT-carbon composite prepared using a microporous carbon template are described. The electrochemical behavior of this composite, as well as that of three other colloidal materials-PEDOT-silica, PEDOT, and microporous carbon particles-is investigated with respect to their suitability as electrode materials ...

Preparation of Porous Carbon Material by Carbonizing Polyacrylonitrile Microspheres

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
PAN microspheres were crosslinked with divinyl benzene (DVB) and styrene (St), and then pre-oxidized under atmospheric pressure, porous carbon microspheres were produced by carbonizing the pretreated microspheres under nitrogen protection. Morphology and structure characterizations of the materials were performed by employing scanning electron ...

Adsorption and redox conversion behaviors of Cr(VI) on goethite/carbon microspheres and akaganeite/carbon microspheres composites

Chemical Engineering Journal, 2019
Abstract In this study, novel mesoporous composites of goethite/carbon microspheres (α-FeOOH/CMSs) and akaganeite/carbon microspheres (β-FeOOH/CMSs) were successfully prepared and employed to remove Cr(VI). Scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy of α-FeOOH/CMSs and β-FeOOH/CMSs composites indicated α-FeOOH and β-FeOOH ...

Synthesis and characterization of carbon hollow microspheres

Journal of Materials Science, 2011
A facile approach was developed for synthesis of carbon hollow microspheres (CHM) via carbonization of the hollow polymer microspheres prepared from polymerization in the presence of l-lysine acted as in situ template. The physical and chemical structures of the samples were investigated by X-ray powder diffraction, Raman spectrum, scanning electron ...

Preparation and characterization of carbon cryogel microspheres

Carbon, 2002
Abstract Carbon cryogel microspheres (CC microspheres) were successfully synthesized by an inverse emulsion polymerization of resorcinol with formaldehyde, followed by freeze drying and pyrolysis in an inert atmosphere. CC microspheres were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, elemental analysis and various gas adsorption measurements.

Bonelike apatite formation on carbon microspheres

Materials Letters, 2007
Abstract Carbon microspheres with a diameter of 2 μm were prepared by hydrothermal process. The apatite-formation ability of the carbon microspheres was evaluated by soaking them in a simulated body fluid (SBF) for 5 and 10 d and apatite-formation mechanism was also analyzed. The result showed that bonelike apatite was formed on the surface of carbon

Fluororganic Groups Grafted on Carbon Microspheres

2019 IEEE 9th International Conference Nanomaterials: Applications & Properties (NAP), 2019
Fluorine-containing carbon microspheres were prepared by treatment with dichlorodifluoromethane, 1,1,1,2- tetrafluorethane and products of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) pyrolysis at elevated temperature. The total fluorine content in the fluorinated carbon microspheres is extremely high it varies from 2.2 to 6.9 mmol/g.
