Carbon nanotube chirality determines properties of encapsulated linear carbon chain

open access: yes, 2018
Long linear carbon chains encapsulated inside carbon nanotubes are a very close realization of carbyne, the truly one-dimensional allotrope of carbon. Here we study individual pairs of double-walled carbon nanotubes and encapsulated linear carbon chains ...

Carbon Nanoarch Encapsulating Fe Nanowire on Ni (111) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We investigate the stable structures of Fe-filled single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) on Ni(111), using density functional theory calculations. We find stable geometries and electronic states for the nanotube on Ni(111).

Near‐Infrared Emitting Lanthanide Catecholate Giant Single Crystals – Morphology Control and Photon Down‐Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled syntheses of lanthanide coordination polymers based on the dihydroxybenzoquinone (DHBQ) organic linker afforded large single crystals of Ln‐DHBQ CPs (Ln = Yb, Nd). A novel structural variant of Yb‐DHBQ is identified by means of single crystal diffraction analysis.

Reduction of short wavelength reflectance of multi-wall carbon nanotubes through ultraviolet laser irradiation

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2018
Multi-wall carbon nanotube coatings are used as broadband, low-reflectance absorbers for bolometric applications and for stray light control. They are also used as high emittance blackbody radiators.

Tuning the Slide-Roll Motion Mode of Carbon Nanotubes via Hydroxyl Groups

open access: yesNanoscale Research Letters, 2018
Controlling the motion of carbon nanotubes is critical in manipulating nanodevices, including nanorobots. Herein, we investigate the motion behavior of SWCNT (10,10) on Si substrate utilizing molecular dynamics simulations.

Double Helical Plasmonic Antennas

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Plasmonic double helical antennas funnel circularly polarized light to the nanoscale, offering strong chiroptical interaction and directional light emission. Extending a single helix design tool, this study combines numerical modeling with experimental validation, revealing large, broadband dissymmetry factors in the visible range.

Effect of Peierls transition in armchair carbon nanotube on dynamical behaviour of encapsulated fullerene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The changes of dynamical behaviour of a single fullerene molecule inside an armchair carbon nanotube caused by the structural Peierls transition in the nanotube are considered.
