Characterization of Soil Organic Matter in Agricultural Soils Under Various Tillage Practices Using Fluorescence Spectroscopy

open access: yesSoil Systems
Conventional tillage, a soil preparation practice used to produce a fine seedbed, can disturb the soil profile by promoting soil compaction and soil organic matter (SOM) degradation.

A minimal cellulosome‐like system in Cellulosilyticum lentocellum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cellulose‐degrading bacteria typically use cellulosomes, large multi‐enzyme complexes on a scaffold protein. In Cellulosilyticum lentocellum, we characterise a far smaller arrangement, a single scaffold bound to one cellulase through a single cohesin‐dockerin interaction.

Associations of vegetation, microbial communities, and soil properties with mineral-associated organic carbon in karst soils

open access: yesEQA
Mineral-associated organic carbon (MAOC) is an important component of stable soil carbon pools, yet its distribution and controlling factors in karst ecosystems remain unclear due to strong soil heterogeneity.

Free atmospheric CO2 enrichment increased above ground biomass but did not affect symbiotic N2-fixation and soil carbon dynamics in a mixed deciduous stand in Wales [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Through increases in net primary production (NPP), elevated CO2 is hypothesizes to increase the amount of plant litter entering the soil. The fate of this extra carbon on the forest floor or in mineral soil is currently not clear.

Plasma EV Proteomics Identifies ECM Remodeling and Inflammatory Proteins LUM and C7 as Candidate Biomarkers in FSHD

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) is one of the most debilitating and common muscular dystrophies. Despite its severity, no approved therapy exists for FSHD patients. However, several therapeutic candidates are currently under development, and some have recently entered clinical trials, marking the need for reliable ...

Real‐World Safety and Effectiveness of JAK Inhibitors in Systemic Sclerosis: A Propensity‐Matched Study From the EUSTAR Cohort

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective JAK inhibitors (JAKi) have shown promising effects in early‐phase studies of systemic sclerosis (SSc). We aimed to assess the safety and explore the effectiveness of JAKi compared to conventional immunosuppressants in SSc. Methods A longitudinal retrospective study of the European Scleroderma Trials and Research Group (EUSTAR) cohort was ...

Divalent cations outweigh metal oxides in stabilizing organic carbon in humid subtropical grassland soils

open access: yesGeoderma
Soil organic carbon (SOC) stability and protection are crucial for carbon sequestration and achieving climate mitigation goals. Physiochemical protection is a key mechanism of SOC stabilization, which is vital for global carbon cycling and has received ...

Forestry and the Carbon Market Response to Stabilize Climate [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper investigates the potential contribution of forestry management in meeting a CO2 stabilization policy of 550 ppmv by 2100. In order to assess the optimal response of the carbon market to forest sequestration we couple two global models.

Elevated Liver Enzymes Is Not an Impediment to Allopurinol Dose Escalation: An Observational Cohort Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Routine liver enzyme monitoring is advocated for while on allopurinol, but supporting guidance is lacking. We assessed the incidence and factors associated with elevated liver enzyme levels in patients with gout commenced on allopurinol. Methods One hundred and fifty patients with gout and normal baseline serum aminotransferases initiated on ...

Production of Polyethylene Based Carbon Fibres

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2015
Polyolefins, especially polyethylene, have great potential as an alternative precursor used for carbon fibre production. Polyethylene can be processed in the economic melt spinning process.
