Intensification in pastoralist cereal use coincides with the expansion of trans-regional networks in the Eurasian Steppe

open access: yes, 2019
The pace of transmission of domesticated cereals, including millet from China as well as wheat and barley from southwest Asia, throughout the vast pastoralist landscapes of the Eurasian Steppe (ES) is unclear.

Long-term carbon and nitrogen dynamics at SPRUCE revealed through stable isotopes in peat profiles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Peatlands encode information about past vegetation dynamics, climate, and microbial processes. Here, we used δ15N and δ13C patterns from 16 peat profiles to deduce how the biogeochemistry of the Marcell S1 forested bog in northern Minnesota responded to ...

Nanoarchitectonics of Porous Carbons Templated by Inorganic Metal Oxides and Alkali Metal Salts for Energy and Environmental Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review explores inorganic metal oxides and metal salt nanoparticles templated porous carbons, highlighting their synthesis, structural features, and performance in energy and environmental applications. It critically compares template types, porosity control, and functional outcomes across recent literature.

Global Nitrogen Deposition Promotes Carbon Sink Formation in Terrestrial Ecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nitrogen deposition alleviates ecosystem N limitation and enhances carbon sinks. Using 829 observations, we show 36% of deposited N is retained globally (39.15 Tg N yr−1), with distinct NHx and NOy contributions. This retention drives a terrestrial C sink of 0.88 Pg C yr−1 (25.48%), highlighting the importance of pool‐specific C:N stoichiometry ...

Stable Isotopes in Greenhouse Gases from Soil: A Review of Theory and Application

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2019
Greenhouse gases emitted from soil play a crucial role in the atmospheric environment and global climate change. The theory and technique of detecting stable isotopes in the atmosphere has been widely used to an investigate greenhouse gases from soil. In

Disruption of Treg Homeostasis in Rheumatoid Arthritis via Ferroptosis‐Mediated ETC Collapse and TXK‐STAT3/PLCγ1 Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In rheumatoid arthritis, synovial Tregs accumulate but are functionally impaired due to iron overload‐induced ferroptosis. This triggers mitochondrial dysfunction and TXK tyrosine kinase‐mediated signaling, leading to Treg destabilization and inflammation.

Mass-spectrometric study on 13C/12C carbon and 18O/16O oxygen stable isotopes distributions in grapes and wines from the Black Sea regions

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences, 2019
The present study continues the 2015–2016 research project on biological characteristics of stable isotopes fractionation in grapes taking into account the agro-climatic growth conditions of this representative of the C3-pathway of photosynthesis group ...
