Minimizing Star-spot Contamination of Exoplanet Transit Spectroscopy Using Alternate Normalization

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Recently, M. H. Currie et al. (2023) simulated the detection of molecules in the atmospheres of temperate rocky exoplanets transiting nearby M-dwarf stars.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Cis‐regulatory and long noncoding RNA alterations in breast cancer – current insights, biomarker utility, and the critical need for functional validation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The noncoding region of the genome plays a key role in regulating gene expression, and mutations within these regions are capable of altering it. Researchers have identified multiple functional noncoding mutations associated with increased cancer risk in the genome of breast cancer patients.

A physical model for the [CII]-FIR deficit in luminous galaxies

open access: yes, 2016
Observations of ionised carbon at 158 micron ([CII]) from luminous star-forming galaxies at z~0 show that their ratios of [CII] to far infrared (FIR) luminosity are systematically lower than those of more modestly star-forming galaxies. In this paper, we

The formation of a detached shell around the carbon star Y CVn [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Y CVn is a carbon star surrounded by a detached dust shell that has been imaged by the Infrared Space Observatory at 90 μm. With the Nancay Radio Telescope, we have studied the gaseous counterpart in the 21-cm H I emission line.

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

Discovery of SiC and Iron Dust around AGB Stars in the Very Metal-poor Sextans a Dwarf Galaxy with JWST: Implications for Dust Production at High Redshift

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Low-resolution infrared spectroscopy from JWST confirms the presence of SiC and likely metallic iron dust around asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars in the Sextans A dwarf galaxy, which has a metallicity ∼1%–7% Z _⊙ .

PHYSICAL PARAMETERS OF HII/PDR COMPLEX IN ORION BAR ESTIMATED BY OBSERVATIONS OF 8 MM RECOMBINATION LINES. EFFECTIVE TEMPERATURE OF 1 С Ori STAR

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2014
Physical parameters of HII/PDR complex in Ori Bar were estimated using observations of recombination radio lines (RRL) of carbon (C), hydrogen (H) and helium (He) with RT-22 radio telescope in Pushchino.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Carbon burning in intermediate mass primordial stars

open access: yes, 2004
The evolution of a zero metallicity 9 M_s star is computed, analyzed and compared with that of a solar metallicity star of identical ZAMS mass. Our computations range from the main sequence until the formation of a massive oxygen-neon white dwarf ...
