Infrared Velocities of Carbon Stars

Astrophysics and Space Science, 1994
We have measured radial velocities of infrared photospheric lines observed in 37 bright carbon stars. The spectra were obtained on the Kitt Peak National Observatory 4 meter telescope with Fourier transform spectrometers between 1976 and 1988. The observations have a typical resolution of 65000 and a typical signal-to-noise ratio of 50. All the spectra

Carbon stars in infrared surveys

Astrophysics and Space Science, 1994
In order to prepare the analysis of the forthcoming near-IR surveys (DENIS, 2MASS) and to interpret them in terms of galactic structure and AGB evolution, we present model predictions of AGB distributions in K, in 12µm and in (J-K, [12–25]) space, as they will be obtained from these surveys, cross-correlated with IRAS Catalog. The simulations have been

Spectrophotometry of carbon stars. I

Astrophysics, 1986
The results of a spectrophotometric study of 13 carbon stars in the wavelength range from 4000 A to 6800 A with 2.75 A resolution are given. The observed energy distributions for these stars relative to the flux at λ0 = 5556 A, represented in graphic form, were determined. Their color temperatures were determined from the [5710] − [6680] color index. A

IRAS LRS Spectra of Cool Carbon Stars: Clues of Carbon Star Evolution

1987
We report on a study of infrared properties of optically identified carbon stars. The aim is to get a coherent observationally based picture of the carbon star evolution along the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) in the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram.
