Selective Laser Sintering and Post Processing of Fully Ferrous Components [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Commercially available steel for indirect SLS (LaserFormtm A6 tool steel) is normally post-process infiltrated with a copper-based material. While such parts have high thermal conductivity necessary for short- and medium-run injection molding dies ...

Interactions between Molten High‐Silicon Electrical Steels and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.

Manufacturing Continuous Fiber‐Reinforced Printing Filaments: Development of a Post‐Consolidation Unit

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel, temperature‐controlled post‐consolidation unit is developed to test its potential to improve the melt impregnation process used to manufacture continuous fiber‐reinforced filaments for additive manufacturing of high‐performance thermoplastics.

Nitride‐Reinforced Metal Matrix Nanocomposite Powders Production by Plasma‐Assisted Thermochemical Treatment of Intermetallic Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes a new methodology for producing metal matrix nanocomposites in the solid state. The process involves the plasma‐assisted thermochemical treatment of metallic alloy powders. As a proof‐of‐concept, TiN nanoparticles are synthesized directly on the surface of FeTi intermetallic powder particles, enabling the development of the ...

Atomistic insight into the effects of W content on the creep behaviors of NbMoTaW high-entropy alloys

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
As a type of refractory high-entropy alloy (RHEA), NbMoTaW shows significant potential as a high-temperature alloy material. However, studies on its high-temperature creep behavior remain limited. In this work, we investigate Nb1-xMo25Ta25Wx (x = 10, 17,

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Effect of Zr addition on MnS inclusion characteristics and mechanical properties in medium carbon ferrite-pearlite steel

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
In this paper, the influence of decreasing Zr content (0.0110 wt%, 0.0044 wt%) on the microstructure, MnS inclusion characteristics, and mechanical properties of medium carbon ferrite-pearlite steel was studied.

Optimization of Surface Roughness for EN 1010 Low Alloy Steel on WEDM Using Response Surface Methodology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The term steel is used for many different alloys of iron. All steels cover small amounts of carbon and manganese. There do exist many types of steels which are(among others) plain carbon steel, stainless steel, alloysteel and tool steel.
