A theoretical and practical analysis of the complex liability issues raised by carbon capture and storage systems for containing greenhouse gases. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) systems inject highly compressed carbon dioxide gas deep into geological formations in order to contain the gas, and its harmful effects on the planet, for the

Carbon Capture and Storage and Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage
2017The last several years have seen a significant withdrawal of support for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) demonstrations worldwide, with major projects being cancelled both in the USA and UK, among other jurisdictions. However, they have also seen the first serious demonstration of CCS technology for power production in Canada.

Carbon Storage and Sequestration as Mineral Carbonates
2002The U.S. Department of Energy has identified mineral sequestration as a promising CO2 sequestration technology option, converting anthropogenic CO2 and magnesium silicates into permanent carbonate minerals. Advantages of a mineral CO2 mitigation scheme include (1) enormous deposits of ultramafic rock such as serpentine [Mg3Si2O5(OH)4] and olivine [(Mg ...

The process of carbon capture and storage (CCS) refers to the isolation of carbon dioxide from generation by gas or coal-fired generation and storing it rather than discharging it to the atmosphere. The CO2 is extracted and piped to a storage facility. This may be a partially depleted oil field where it is used to facilitate enhanced oil recovery (EOR).
