Hydrogenation of Biomass-derived 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) over Pd Catalysts in Aqueous Medium

open access: yesOrbital: The Electronic Journal of Chemistry, 2022
We hydrogenated biomass-derived 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) in aqueous medium in a reaction catalyzed by palladium nanoparticles (Pd) on carbonaceous materials with different morphology and hydrophobic degree.

Evaluation of spent pot lining (SPL) as an alternative carbonaceous material in ironmaking processes

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2019
Integrated ironmaking plants equipped with blast furnaces utilize several types of carbonaceous materials for hot metal production. Among them, coal is used for cokemaking and PCI, being the most expensive raw material for primary iron production. Due to

The Influence of NH4NO3 and NH4ClO4 on Porous Structure Development of Activated Carbons Produced from Furfuryl Alcohol

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
The influence of NH4NO3 and NH4ClO4 on the porous texture and structure development of activated carbons produced from a non-porous polymeric precursor synthesized from furfuryl alcohol has been studied.

Optical Properties of Carbonaceous Materials [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1989
We discuss the optical properties of carbonaceous materials from the VUV to the FIR. Updated laboratory data on amorphous carbon (HAC) and some PAH mixtures are analysed and compared with relevant literature. We find that the 2175 å hump can be due to very small (< a > ≥ 10 å) HAC grains.

A new ecological mineral-carbonaceous material for adsorption of organic pollutants – a step towards a circular economy [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Environmental Protection
Two industrial waste products – namely, cement bypass dust and apple pomace - were used in the synthesis of a new ecological mineral-carbonaceous material intended that can be used for the adsorption of organic pollutants. The raw materials were mixed at

Carbonisation of biomass-derived chars and the thermal reduction of a graphene oxide sample studied using Raman spectroscopy

open access: yes, 2013
Chars and carbonised chars were produced from three different oxygen-rich precursors (Pinus radiata wood, Phormium tenax leaf fibres, and sucrose crystals).
