Controls on fracturing in carbonate rocks

Proceedings of SPE Middle East Oil and Gas Show and Conference, 2005
Abstract Sedimentology (lithology, sedimentary structures, bed thick-ness, mechanical stratigraphy, the nature of bedding planes), structural geology (tectonic setting, palaeostresses, subsi-dence/uplift history, proximity to faults, position in a fold, timing of structural events, mineralisation, the angle between bedding and fractures)

Stylolitization in Carbonate Rocks

1968
Stylolite features are defined in terms of rock grain fabric relationships: intergranular and aggregate stylolites are differentiated. Geometric and genetic classifications of stylolites are offered. Megascopic and microscopic observations on the stylolites occuring in carbonate rocks of the Uppper Mississippian System in southern Illinois fluorspar ...

Diagenesis of carbonate rocks

Journal of the Geological Society, 1976
The mineralogy and textures of sedimentary carbonate rocks suggest two stages of diagenesis. The stabilization of skeletal fragments from aragonite, high magnesian calcite and calcite, to calcite is the first stage and generally pre-compactive grain fracture.

Classifications of Carbonate Rocks

1982
Carbonate rocks can be subdivided according to: a) chemical and mineralogical composition, e.g., Chilingar (1960), Pettijohn (1957), or Fuchtbauer (1959), b) fabric features — “groundmass” (= matrix and/or cement) and particles, c) special physical parameters, e.g., porosity, Choquette and Pray (1970); see 9.2.1.
