Production, by co-grinding in a media mill, of porous biodegradable polylactic acid-apatite composite materials for bone tissue engineering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This paper presents the results of a study of the production of porous biodegradable composite materials by co-grinding, followed by scaffolding. Dry powders of polylactic acid and nanocrystalline carbonated apatite, analogous to bone mineral were co ...

RETRACTED ARTICLE: Bioresorbable carbonated hydroxyapatite Ca10−xNax(PO4)6−x(CO3)x(OH)2 powders for bioactive materials preparation

open access: yesOpen Chemistry, 2009
The purpose of this work was to find and investigate a correlation between the carbonate ion content in crystalline lattice and defect structure, and solubility of the materials; finally, to prepare the materials under study for in vitro tests.

A previously unknown way of heme detoxification in the digestive tract of cats

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Free heme is a highly toxic molecule for a living organism and its detoxification is a very important process, especially for carnivorous animals. Here we report the discovery of a previously unknown process for neutralizing free heme in the digestive ...

Thermal decomposition of synthesised carbonate hydroxyapatite

open access: yesJournal of Materials Science: Materials in Medicine, 2002
Heat treatments are used when sintering hydroxyapatite to make porous blocks and granules and during plasma spraying of coatings. Calcium : phosphorus ratio is known to affect the thermal decomposition behavior of hydroxyapatite. Hydroxyapatite with carbonate ions substituted for phosphate ions is more similar in composition to bone mineral.

Loading and Release Profile Assay of Carbonated Hydroxyapatite Incorporated with Propolis as Bone Graft Material

open access: yesMajalah Obat Tradisional, 2020
Periodontitis can lead to the destruction of the alveolar bone. The loss of the alveolar bone can be treated using carbonated hydroxyapatite (CHA) as a bone graft material.

Photoluminescent Properties of Hydroxyapatite and Hydroxyapatite/Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotube Composites [PDF]

open access: yesCrystals, 2021
Hydroxyapatite (HAp) and hydroxyapatite/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composites were obtained by the co-precipitation method, followed by ultrasound-assisted and microwave radiation and thermal treatment at 250 °C. X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirmed the presence of a hexagonal phase in all the samples, while Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR ...

Carbonated hydroxyapatite‐assisted visible light degradation of methylene blue

open access: yesInternational Journal of Ceramic Engineering & Science, 2022
Carbonated hydroxyapatite (CHAp) material was prepared from calcite and phosphate‐containing solution using the wet chemical precipitation method. The CHAp material was used to remove methylene blue (MB) from simulated contaminated water and further ...

Growth of NIH 3T3 Fibroblast Cells Exposed to Carbonated Hydroxyapatite with Incorporated Propolis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Carbonated hydroxyapatite is frequently used as bone graft material in dentistry. It is highly biocompatible, has osteoconductive properties, and functions as a drug delivery system. Propolis is a natural product from bees that has antibacterial and anti-

Microstrain in hydroxyapatite carbon nanotube composites

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, 2007
Synchrotron radiation diffraction data were collected from hydroxyapatite-carbon nanotube bioceramic composites to determine the crystallite size and to measure changes in non-uniform strain. Estimates of crystallite size and strain were determined by line-profile fitting of discrete peaks and these were compared with a Rietveld whole-pattern analysis.
