Sea level changes versus hydrothermal diagenesis: Origin of Triassic carbonate platform cycles in the Dolomites, Italy: Discussion

open access: yes
In his recent paper, Blendinger (2004) presents a new and unconventional hypothesis for the formation of the Triassic Latemàr carbonate cycles. He assigned the cycles to intermittent hydrothermal influence alternating with normal marine deposition ...

Distinct Systemic Sclerosis Phenotypes Related to Ethnicity: An Opportunity to Personalize Care?

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective The objective is to describe and compare demographic, clinical and serological characteristics of systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients according to ethnic background. Methods Participants enrolled in the Canadian Scleroderma Research Group cohort who self‐identified to a single ethnicity group were included.

U/Th dating of cold-seep carbonates: An initial comparison

open access: yes, 2010
Authigenic carbonates from hydrocarbon seeps are unique archives of past seepage and associated environmental parameters. In order to constrain the ages of a set of seep carbonates and the time involved in carbonate formation, we applied Uranium/Thorium (

Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Alumina: Effects of Scanning Strategies on External and Internal Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates how scanning strategies affect pure alumina in laser powder bed fusion. Linear 45° scanning yields uniform surfaces but high porosity, while the island‐concentric strategy provides higher density with through‐holes favorable for infiltration. Findings highlight pathways toward optimizing defect‐free alumina parts.

Automated diagnostics of carbonate rocks from microphotographs of thin sections based on machine learning [PDF]

open access: yesНефтегазовая геология: Теория и практика
On the basis of machine learning technology, a computer model for diagnosing carbonate rocks from thin section images has been developed. The model uses the Dunham' classification and identifies four types of carbonates - mudstone, wackestone, packstone,

Carboxylic‐Acid Functionalized Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube‐Alkane‐Based Resistive Temperature Sensor for Cold Chain Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a reversible temperature sensor with high switching ratio, ∼103. The device is fabricated using PET‐ITO and carbon nanotube dispersions in alkane. Considering its application in cold chain logistics, a proof‐of‐concept with LED is showcased. Thus, a temperature drop below the threshold temperature (crystallization temperature of the

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 11, 3 June 2026.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Nature inspired strategy to capture smoky carbon dioxide into commercial carbonates and add value to farming

open access: yes
Air pollution is linked to the climate change crisis threatening life on Earth. The technologies for managing the rising concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide are insufficient and mostly non-holistic.
