The experimental investigation of concrete carbonation depth
Cement and Concrete Research, 2006Abstract Phenolphthalein indicator has traditionally been used to determine the depth of carbonation in concrete. This investigation uses the thermalgravimetric analysis (TGA) method, which tests the concentration distribution of Ca(OH)2 and CaCO3, while the X-ray diffraction analysis (XRDA) tests the intensity distribution of Ca(OH)2 and CaCO3.

Measurement of beryllium depth profiles in carbon
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2004Abstract This paper is concerned with the measurement of Be diffusion profiles in C by combining RBS and XPS sputter depth profiling. The total Be content in the samples was measured by RBS (2 MeV 4 He + ) at a scattering angle of 102° in order to increase depth resolution and sensitivity for Be.

Depth profiling free carbon in silicon carbide
Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology A: Vacuum, Surfaces, and Films, 1995A fingerprint for free carbon was identified from the negative ion mass spectra of various carbon and silicon carbide standards. It was found that high-mass carbon molecular species can be used to distinguish free carbon in silicon carbide. Secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) depth profiling (12 keV Cs+ primary beam, negative SIMS mode) was used to ...

Depth indicators in sedimentary carbonates
Marine Geology, 1967Abstract Determination of depth criteria applicable to the study of ancient limestones can only be based on an understanding of modern carbonate sedimentation. Since oolites and micrites are frequently used as depth criteria in stratigraphic studies, our knowledge of their Recent counterparts is examined in some detail.

Depth profiling of deuterium in a beryllium/carbon layer
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 1992Abstract Depth distributions for deuterium trapped within the Be/C layer on a JET limiter after long-term operation have been measured up to a depth of 7 μm using the D(3He, p)4He reaction in a resonance-like technique. For several points along a JET limiter tile, depth profiles and the total amount of trapped deuterium have been determined.

Tritium depth profiling in carbon by accelerator mass spectrometry
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 1997Abstract A facility for tritium depth profiling measurements by AMS has been installed at the Rossendorf 3 MV Tandetron. Depth profiles are obtained by mechanical scanning of the sputter sample inside a commercial Cs sputter ion source. The deuterium profiles are obtained simultaneously using the injection magnet for mass separation. First results of

Evaluation of hybrid depth scanning for carbon‐ion radiotherapy
Medical Physics, 2012Purpose:In radiotherapy with a scanned carbon‐ion beam, its Bragg peak is shifted along the depth direction either by inserting the range shifter plates or by changing the beam‐extraction energy of a synchrotron. In the former technique (range shifter scanning: RS), the range shifter plates broaden the beam size and produce secondary fragments through ...

Prediction of Carbonation Depth in Blended Systems
2017The majority of cement available worldwide includes supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) as a mineral additive to improve mechanical and durability properties of cement. The alkalinity of the concrete made using such cements is less as SCMs consume the calcium hydroxide produced on clinker hydration by the pozzolanic reaction.

Soil carbon: Depth of understanding
2017Earth system models disagree on the fate of soil organic carbon under climate change. Reproducing spatial patterns of the climatological temperature sensitivity of soil carbon is a necessary condition for trustworthy simulations of the carbon-cycle–climate feedback.
