Engineering Strategies for Stable and Long‐Life Alkaline Zinc‐Based Flow Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Alkaline zinc‐based flow batteries face persistent challenges from unstable zinc deposition, including dendrite growth, passivation, corrosion, and hydrogen evolution, which severely limit cycling stability. Current research addresses these issues through coordinated electrode structuring, electrolyte regulation, and membrane design to control zinc ...

Carbonation Characteristics of Alkali-Activated Blast-Furnace Slag Mortar

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2014
Alkali-activated ground granulated blast-slag (AAS) is the most obvious alternative material for ordinary Portland cement (OPC). However, to use it as a structural material requires the assessment and verification of its durability.

Shape‐Controlled Guanine Self‐Assemblies for Stable and Fast‐Ion Solid–Electrolyte Interphases in Sustainable Li Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The shape of guanine self‐assemblies is tuned by introducing alkyl (G8), fluoroalkyl (G8f), and oligoether (G8g) side chains into the G moiety. The scanning tunneling microscopy results and calculations show that the presence and type of the side chain strongly affect the G self‐assembly network.

Toward Stable Multivalent Metal Batteries: Understanding the Interfacial Chemistry for Magnesium and Calcium Metal Anodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Interphase chemistry governs the stability of multivalent metal batteries. We summarize state‐of‐the‐art developments in calcium and magnesium metal batteries by focusing on the correlation among electrolytes, interphase layers, and the electrochemical performance of corresponding metal anodes.

Regionally Localized Electrolyte Engineering via UV Crosslinking for Stable Ether–Carbonate Lithium Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a regionally localized electrolyte (RLE) that spatially separates ether‐ and carbonate‐based functions to stabilize both Li metal and high‐voltage cathodes. An immobilized ether‐rich layer directs Li+ transport, activates LiNO3 locally, and forms a uniform LiF‐rich SEI, enabling lower overpotential, uniform deposition, and long ...

Effect of acid attack coupled with elevated temperatures on carbonation-cured calcium sulfoaluminate and ordinary Portland cement paste

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials
This study evaluated the performance of ordinary Portland cement (OPC) and calcium sulfoaluminate (CSA) cement pastes subjected to water and carbonation curing, followed by exposure to sulfuric acid and elevated temperatures of 200 °C and 600 °C ...

Solvent‐Free Manufacturing of Multifunctional Gas Diffusion Electrode Architectures for Enhanced CO2 Conversion From Low‐Concentration Streams

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A tandem gas diffusion electrode (GDE) leveraging hierarchically engineered microgranules enables efficient CO2 electroreduction under dilute CO2 conditions. A key innovation lies in the solvent‐free precision assembly of metal–organic‐frameworks, carbon nanotubes, and copper nanoparticles.
