Supercapacitors Based on Activated Carbons, Products of Rice Hull Processing

Rice hull ash (RHA) produced commercially by burning hulls of rice growing in the Krasnodar Krai, Russia, is characterized by a series of modern physicochemical investigation methods. The RHA is shown to contain amorphous silica (>70 wt %) and carbon (~8 wt %).

This study aimed to determine the copper ion-sensing ability of a carbon nanotube (CNT)-based sensor with carbonized rice hull (CRH) as catalyst. The 50:50 CNT-CRH electrode was compared to 100% graphite, 100% CRH, 100% CNT, 50:50 graphite-CRH, and 70:30 graphite-CRH electrodes.

Structure and properties of a moulded carbon derived from rice hull

Rice hull was moulded into a tube (outer diameter: 54 mm; inner diameter: 17 mm, length: c. 170 mm) by use of an extruder and then carbonized in nitrogen atmosphere below 1000 °C. Ash content of the hull was 16 wt%, of which c. 94 and 4 wt% were SiO2 and K2O, respectively.

Direct synthesis of tetramethoxysilane from rice hull ash by reaction with dimethyl carbonate

Abstract Rice hull ash (92% SiO2 purity), when loaded with 5 wt.% of potassium hydroxide, reacts with dimethyl carbonate at 625 K to give almost quantitatively tetramethoxysilane. The ash also reacts with diethyl carbonate to give an 80% yield of tetraethoxysilane at 725 K.

CARBONIZED RICE HULL AND VERMICULITE AS SUBSTRATES FOR INDOOR FARMING OF PECHAY MICROGREENS

Two varieties (Black Behi and Bok Choy) of pechay were used as microgreens to determine their response from two substrates (carbonized rice hull and vermiculite). The microgreens were grown under ambient conditions where the temperature and relative humidity 28 ± 2 and 65 ± 5% were recorded.
