Carboxyhemoglobin Formation in Preterm Infants Is Related to the Subsequent Development of Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia

open access: yesDisease Markers, 2015
Objective. To evaluate the usefulness of carboxyhemoglobin (CO-Hb) levels as a biomarker to predict the development and severity of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). Methods. Twenty-five infants born at

Determinants of fibrinogen in an Italian population suffering from claudication. Lower fibrinogen in the south compared to middle and north of Italy. The ADEP Group. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Prospective studies have shown that high plasma levels of fibrinogen are independently associated with the risk of cardiovascular complications. In patients suffering from peripheral vascular disease (PVD) fibrinogen has been shown to be an independent ...

Blood carboxyhemoglobin monitoring for evaluation of severity of traumatic shock and reperfusion injuries (analytical review with results of our own observations)

open access: yes, 2017
Carbon monoxide (CO) is the native product of organism metabolism. In biology, carbon monoxide is naturally produced by the action of heme oxygenase 1 and 2 on the heme from hemoglobin breakdown.

The role of ferritin and carboxyhemoglobin as inflammatory biomarkers in sepsis and septic shock

open access: yesActa Marisiensis - Seria Medica
Background: While increased carbon monoxide production in sepsis is well-documented, the role of carboxyhemoglobin blood level fluctuations as a potential indicator of disease progression in sepsis remains unclear.

Modulated excitation of singly ligated carboxyhemoglobin

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 1993
We have extended the method of modulated excitation, a small perturbation kinetic method, to study ligand binding and conformational change of hemoglobin tetramers with a single ligand bound. To restrict the excitation to the first ligand, only 1% of the hemes have bound CO, and the remainder are kept unliganded.
