Structure and mechanism of human DNA polymerase η [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The variant form of the human syndrome xeroderma pigmentosum (XPV) is caused by a deficiency in DNA polymerase eta (Pol eta), a DNA polymerase that enables replication through ultraviolet-induced pyrimidine dimers.

Sol–Gel Derived Polymer Precursors for Stereolithography of ZrC

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
ZrC is a critical material target for extreme temperature conditions. This report describes a protocol for preparing ZrC ceramics via stereolithography and examines the impact of the polymer matrix on carbothermal reduction and mechanical stability of 3D printed ZrC.

On‐Demand Activation of Thin Alginate Shell Encapsulated Volatile Liquid for Untethered Pneumatic Soft Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐changing liquids enable untethered pneumatic actuation in soft robotics but suffer from volatility and storage challenges. This work reports a simple method to encapsulate Novec 7000 within micron‐thin alginate shells via in situ injection and ionic crosslinking.

Impact of Sustainable Binders Based on Lignin and Collagen on the Volume Stability and Mechanical Properties of MgO‐C Refractories with MgO‐C Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Collagen hydrolysate is evaluated as a sustainable binder for MgO‐C refractories. Its thermally induced cross‐linking and gas release lead to expansion and cracking in large bricks, but tailored batches with lignin, recyclates, or fine graphite improve the gas release while thermal treatment and stability.

An isoxazole strategy for the synthesis of 4-oxo-1,4-dihydropyridine-3-carboxylates

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2022
A method has been developed for the preparation of 2-alkyl-6-aryl-, 2-aryl-6-aryl and 2,6-diaryl-5-aryl/hetaryl-substituted methyl 4-oxo-1,4-dihydropyridine-3-carboxylates by Mo(CO)6-mediated ring expansion of methyl 2-(isoxazol-5-yl)-3-oxopropanoates ...

Perfluoroalkyl Carboxylic Acids Interact with the Human Bile Acid Transporter NTCP

open access: yesLivers, 2021
Na+/taurocholate cotransporting polypeptide (NTCP) is important for the enterohepatic circulation of bile acids, which has been suggested to contribute to the long serum elimination half-lives of perfluoroalkyl substances in humans.
