Minimizing Deformations in High-Temperature Vacuum Carburizing. [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials (Basel), 2023
This article presents the results of a study on reducing deformations resulting from high-temperature vacuum carburizing and post-carburizing heat treatment. The idea was to increase the strength of steel at elevated temperatures by pre-carburizing at heat-up to the process temperature (SC—stage carburizing).

Effect of Carburizing Temperature and Post Carburizing Treatments on Microhardness and Microstructural Evolution of Carburized Low-Carbon Steel

open access: yesJournal of Pure & Applied Sciences, 2023
This paper reports the results of an experimental investigation of the effect of carburizing temperature and post carburizing heat treatments on the structural and hardness properties of pack carburized low-carbon steel. The carburizing processes were performed at temperatures of 900°C and 1035°C for 6 hours.

Effects of carburization time and temperature on the mechanical properties of carburized mild steel, using activated carbon as carburizer [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2009
Due to the complexity of controlling parameters in carburization, there has been relatively little work on process variables during the surface hardening process. This work focuses on the effects of the carburizing temperature and time on the mechanical properties of mild steel carburized with activated carbon, at 850, 900 and 950 ºC, soaked at the ...

Study on carburized steel used in maritime industry: The influences of carburizing temperature

open access: yesMaritime Technology and Research, 2020
This paper aims to examine the influence of carburizing temperature on carburized mild steel. Carburizing treatment was carried out at carburizing temperatures of 800 and 900 °C with fixed carburizing time of 1 h. The results indicated that carburization treatment could improve the hardness of the samples.

Carburization of High-Temperature Alloys during Steam Cracking: The Impact of Alloy Composition and Temperature

open access: yesIndustrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2023
Prior studies found that the carburization tendency is negligible for technically developed materials at temperatures below 900 degrees C, especially for Al-containing alloys compared to non-Al-containing alloys applied in steam cracking reactors. However, it is unclear whether this benefit remains at higher temperatures.

Low Temperature Surface Carburization of Stainless Steels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Low-temperature colossal supersaturation (LTCSS) is a novel surface hardening method for carburization of austenitic stainless steels (SS) without the precipitation of carbides. The formation of carbides is kinetically suppressed, enabling extremely high or colossal carbon supersaturation. As a result, surface carbon concentrations in excess of 12 at. %

The Nature of Low Temperature Carburized Layer

open access: yes, 2018
Carburizing of stainless steels at low temperatures (below 500°C) develops a high content carbon layer, known for its high hardness. X-ray Diffraction investigation indicates that carburization treatment does not impact the structure of substrate; however, introduced carbon causes expansion in the carburized layer through the increase in d ...

Exploration of low temperature carburizing of steels in ferrite phase.

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Science, 2001
Various steels are prepared for a carburization in ferrite phase. Effect of alloying elements (Cr, Mo, V) for surface hardness was investigated in this study. We confirmed the low temperature carburizing below the A1 point of steel. The steel containing V and Mo increased in surface hardness to over Hv 600 approximately.

Carburization Behaviour of High Temperature Aalloys in Carburizing Environment

open access: yesCarburization Behaviour of High Temperature Aalloys in Carburizing Environment
