Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Physiology, 1995
The innervation of the branchial vasculature of the blacktip reef shark, Carcharhinus melanopterus, appears similar to that described for other elasmobranchs. Isolated perfused gill arch preparations were used in a study of vascular responses to branchial nerve stimulation.

Suspected intestinal torsion in a blacktip reef shark (Carcharhinus melanopterus).
Journal of zoo and wildlife medicine : official publication of the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians, 1999A blacktip reef shark (Carcharhinus melanopterus) with a history of recurrent eversion or prolapse of the valvular intestine, arrived at the Steinhart Aquarium in June 1996 and was placed in a mixed species shark display. The eversion soon reappeared, and the animal became thin and anorexic.

This study examined the characteristics of a blacktip reef shark Carcharhinus melanopterus population in turbid coastal habitats through a multi‐year fishery‐independent sampling and tag–recapture programme. Results revealed a highly structured population comprised almost entirely of juveniles and adult females with individuals between 850 and 1050 mm ...

On the island of Moorea, French Polynesia, tourism operators have engaged in consistent elasmobranch provisioning at specific sites since the 1990s, conditioning the area’s shark and ray populations to human feeding and developing profitable lagoon tours based on close-contact elasmobranch encounters.

Range of electrosensory detection of prey by Carcharhinus melanopterus and Himantura granulata
Marine and Freshwater Research, 2001Elasmobranch fishes have a well developed electrosense that is used for prey detection. Research into the nature of bioelectric cues emitted by prey has, however, been neglected, and consequently the spatial context in which the electrosense operates to detect and home in on prey is not completely understood.

Inadequate life-history information can compromise management of shark populations. The present study examined the life history of blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus) from north-eastern Australia with predictions that they would show life-history patterns similar to those of other reef sharks species.

article i nfo Animal movements, residence times, and subsequently foraging strategies, should vary with habitat quality. We used acoustic and satellite telemetry, as well as stable isotopes, to look at movement patterns, macro- scale habitat use, and trophic ecology of blacktip reef sharks, Carcharhinus melanopterus, between two lagoons (eastern and ...

Lipid contents of marine fish: Carcharhinus melanopterus (Black Shark) and Lutjanus johnii (Hira).
Pakistan journal of pharmaceutical sciences, 2006Total lipid composition of liver oil of two marine fish Carcharhinus melanopterus (Black Shark) and Lutjanus johnii (Hira) was determined. The fatty acid contents of total liver lipids were identified through gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. It was found that fatty acid methyl eaten mainly consist of myristic, pentadecylic, palmitic, stearic acids

SummaryOne black‐tip reef shark (Carcharhinus melanopterus) was found dead without previous signs of disease. Major lesions consisted in cutaneous erythema, mainly at the base of the fins, focal to diffuse inflammatory lesions in gills and intestinal wall, and discrete haemorrhages in the same organs, liver and kidneys.
