GENITOURINARY CARCINOID TUMORS: INITIAL REPORT OF URETERAL CARCINOID TUMOR
Journal of Urology, 2000Carcinoid tumor is a rare malignant lesion that is poorly understood. The term karzinoid was initially used by Oberndorfer in 1907 to describe a tumor that resembled adenocarcinoma but behaved in a more benign fashion. We know now that such benign behavior may not be the case.

Hyperparathyroidism and Carcinoid Tumor
Annals of Internal Medicine, 1975Three patients with carcinoid tumor associated with hyperparathyroidism are described. All patients showed a high circulating immunoreactive calcitonin level with no differential increase in the neck venous catheterization specimens, suggesting that the high concentrations of circulating immunoreactive calcitonin may have come from the carcinoid tumor.

Management of Carcinoid Tumors
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2010Primary bronchopulmonary carcinoids comprise a significant proportion of carcinoid tumors. The clinical presentation allows prediction of the diagnosis and cell type and directs evaluation and treatment. Young age, central tumor, and no nodal enlargement are highly suggestive of typical carcinoid. These patients require no further diagnostic or staging

Resection of typical bronchial carcinoid was carried out in 203 patients. The average age was 48 years, and the sex distribution was approximately equal. Bronchoscopy was the most definitive diagnostic procedure, even though 15% of the tumors were located in the segmental bronchus or beyond.

Carcinoid tumors of the rectum
The American Journal of Surgery, 1978Carcinoid tumors of the rectum are not uncommon. However, multiple rectal carcinoids are very rare but can occur. The behavior of the rectal carcinoids is different than that of carcinoid tumors in other areas of the gastrointestinal tract. All carcinoids are malignant, and management is based on size and depth of invasion.

Primary carcinoid tumor of the thymus is a rare, slow-growing neoplasm occurring most commonly in middle-aged men. The usual clinical manifestations are those of a mediastinal mass, although in asymptomatic patients, the diagnosis may be suggested by a routine chest roentgenogram. Excision is the most common treatment.

In this report on 3 cases of thymic carcinoid, tumors recurred in 2 patients not undergoing lymph node dissection. We review 47 cases of this disease taken from the Japanese literature, and discuss surgical procedures for reducing recurrence. In 9 of 20 cases of recurrence in encapsulated thymic carcinoid, lymph nodes were not dissected in eight ...

Serotonin and Carcinoid Tumors
Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, 1985The enterochromaffin (EC) cell system is distributed throughout the entire gastrointestinal tract. Enterochromaffin cells are the major source of intestinal serotonin (5-HT), but separate subpopulations of EC cells may synthesize and store peptides as substance P (SP), motilin, and enkephalin as well.

Abstract Most ureteral tumors are transitional cell neoplasms. Neuroendocrine tumors of the genitourinary tract are extremely rare. To our knowledge, only one ureteral carcinoid tumor has been reported before. We report a second case of ureteral carcinoid tumor found in a 70‐year‐old female.
