Small cell carcinoma (SCLC) is an aggressive neoplasm of neuroendocrine cell origin with a distinct biologic behavior and is therefore grouped separately from other primary lung neoplasms. SCLC represents about 15–25 % of all lung cancers and tends to occur in younger patients than those with the other lung cancers.
