Two-Stage Convolutional Neural Network for Breast Cancer Histology Image Classification [PDF]

open access: yesLNCS 10882 (2018) 717-726, 2018
This paper explores the problem of breast tissue classification of microscopy images. Based on the predominant cancer type the goal is to classify images into four categories of normal, benign, in situ carcinoma, and invasive carcinoma. Given a suitable training dataset, we utilize deep learning techniques to address the classification problem.

Segmenting Microcalcifications in Mammograms and its Applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Microcalcifications are small deposits of calcium that appear in mammograms as bright white specks on the soft tissue background of the breast. Microcalcifications may be a unique indication for Ductal Carcinoma in Situ breast cancer, and therefore their accurate detection is crucial for diagnosis and screening.

Legumain is an independent predictor for invasive recurrence in breast ductal carcinoma in situ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
© 2018, United States & Canadian Academy of Pathology. Legumain is a proteolytic enzyme that plays a role in the regulation of cell proliferation in invasive breast cancer.

A Retrospective Study of Treatment of Squamous Cell Carcinoma In situ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Squamous cell carcinoma in situ is an intra-epidermal malignancy of the skin with potential to progress to invasive carcinoma. Commonly used treatments are surgical excision, cryotherapy, photodynamic therapy, laser ablation, curettage with cautery ...

Biochemical analysis of human breast tissues using FT-Raman spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In this work we employ the Fourier Transform Raman Spectroscopy to study normal and tumoral human breast tissues, including several subtypes of cancers. We analyzed 194 Raman spectra from breast tissues that were separated into 9 groups according to their corresponding histopathological diagnosis.

Unusual case of Paget disease of the nipple diagnosed by nipple scraping cytology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Paget disease of the nipple is a rare presentation of breast cancer. It is sometimes mistaken for a benign skin condition of the nipple and surrounding areola, which can significantly delay the diagnosis and treatment.

Lymphangiogenesis and carcinoma in the uterine cervix: Joint and hierarchical models for random cluster sizes and continuous outcomes [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Statistics 2015, Vol. 9, No. 4, 1932-1949, 2016
Although the lymphatic system is clearly linked to the metastasis of most human carcinomas, the mechanisms by which lymphangiogenesis occurs in response to the presence of carcinoma remain unclear. Hierarchical models are presented to investigate the properties of lymphatic vessel production in 2997 fields taken from 20 individuals with invasive ...

Ductal Carcinoma In Situ Biology, Biomarkers, and Diagnosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2017
Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is an often-diagnosed breast disease and a known, non-obligate, precursor to invasive breast carcinoma. In this review, we explore the clinical and pathological features of DCIS, fundamental elements of DCIS biology ...
