Abstract The heart consists of four chambers that are connected in such a way that contraction of them causes the heart to act as a pump, the right half of the heart passing blood from the venae cavae to the pulmonary circulation for oxygenation and the left half of the heart pumping oxygenated blood from the pulmonary veins into the aorta and ...

Cardiac cycle time effects on selection efficiency in vision.
Psychophysiology, 2016The effect of cardiac cycle time on attentional selection was investigated in an experiment in which participants classified target letters in a visual selection task.

An analytic model of the cardiac cycle
2008 IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium Conference Record, 2008This paper analyzes the volume curves of the cardiac chambers in the cardiac cycle. Volume curves were measured from the cardiac CT test case reconstructed at 6 different phases. The ventricular and atrial volume curves were then interpolated and applied to an anthropomorphic analytical model human heart.

Indoor Cycling for the Cardiac Patient
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1971To the Editor.— When the patient with coronary disease is "back on his feet" and regular daily exercise is considered essential to keeping him there, I prescribe indoor cycling, and the prescription is as specific as any written for his medication. There are many reasons for preferring indoor cycling to walking, swimming, jogging, and golf.

The Wright Cardiac Cycle Table: A Novel Tool to Teach the Cardiac Cycle
The FASEB Journal, 2017The Wiggers Diagram has been the standard tool for teaching the events of the cardiac cycle for nearly 100 years. However, as it often displays related cardiac cycle events on different figures in the diagram, many students have trouble grasping how these components work together to pump blood into arteries.

Signal Detection and the “Cardiac Arousal Cycle”
Psychophysiology, 1972ABSTRACTThe hypothesis was tested that different phases of the cardiac cycle would be associated with differences in either sensory capacity or response bias, as estimated by signal detection analyses. Each of 10 subjects was given 800 signal (SN) and 800 non‐signal (N) trials randomly distributed throughout the cardiac cycle.

Detection of the Heartbeat and Events in the Cardiac Cycle
Psychophysiology, 1985ABSTRACTIn previous studies the heartbeat has been defined in terms of individual components of the cardiac cycle (e.g., the R‐wave or the ventricular contraction) as specified by the experimenter, and subjects have been classified as nondetectors if they failed the task set by the experimenter.

Electromechanical Intervals of the Fetal Cardiac Cycle
Clinics in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 1979The measurement of electromechanical intervals of the fetal cardiac cycle may be useful in the evaluation of cardiac status, since they are based upon sound physiological principles. Studies of EMIs in the human fetus are currently in their infancy and clinical evaluation of their usefulness awaits the development of adequate data acquisition ...

Influence of menstrual cycle on cardiac performance
Maturitas, 2007The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between endogen sex hormone levels and myocardial performance in two different phases of menstrual cycle. The relationships between cardiac performance and sex hormone levels in menstrual cycle have not yet been clearly identified.Twenty-seven women at the age of 19-42 years (mean 24.11+/-6 ...

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses mechanical events underlying cardiac cycle. The mature heart is built upon a collagenous skeleton in the shape of a fibrotendinous ring (the annulus fibrosus), which is located at the atrioventricular junction.
