The cardiac cycle: regulation and energy oscillations
American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 1983Cyclical changes in energy-related metabolites were observed in glucose-perfused but not pyruvate-perfused isolated working rat hearts. A chronological study of various phases of the cardiac cycle indicated maximum changes in metabolites occurred at half time to peak pressure (dF/dtmax).

Reaction time as a function of the cardiac cycle
British Journal of Psychology, 1980Simple reaction times to auditory stimuli varied with the phase of the cardiac cycle in which the stimulus was presented. Longitudinal studies showed that stimuli triggered at different phases in the ECG gave rise to different rhythmic patterns of behaviour.

A digital approach to the cardiac cycle
IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Magazine, 1994The timing diagram model could provide the cardiologist with the ways and means of quantifying interval/segment patterns. This analysis would be more exact than present use of electrocardiograms, which relies on subjective analyses of pathological events and the graph patterns they present.

Fluctuation of intracranial pressure associated with the cardiac cycle
Neurosurgery, 1982Within the intensive care setting, a portable microcomputer system was used to extract three parameters from the intracranial pressure fluctuation associated with the cardiac cycle. One parameter, the mean of sampled intracranial pressure, was defined as the average value of pressure for a 1.08-second interval following the R wave of the ...

Calcium Cycling and Signaling in Cardiac Myocytes
Annual Review of Physiology, 2008Calcium (Ca) is a universal intracellular second messenger. In muscle, Ca is best known for its role in contractile activation. However, in recent years the critical role of Ca in other myocyte processes has become increasingly clear. This review focuses on Ca signaling in cardiac myocytes as pertaining to electrophysiology (including action ...

Respiration Within the Cardiac Cycle
1988The interactions between the respiratory and cardiovascular systems are complex. Clinical terms as “cor pulmonale” or “cardiopulmonary unit” attest to the intimate anatomic and physiologic relationship between heart and lung. In the intact circulation changes in intrathoracic pressure and/or lung volume will simultaneously induce alterations in venous ...
