Cardiac MRI is superior to gated blood pool imaging in the assessment of left ventricular function in patients post-cardiac transplantation

open access: yes, 2010
Background: Gated Blood Pool Imaging (GBPI) has low inter-test variability compared to echocardiography, and is often used when accurate repeated measurements of left ventricular ejection fraction are required such as in the surveillance of post ...

2D Skeletal Muscle Thin Film Actuators Enhance Efficiency of Biohybrid Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
2D skeletal muscle thin film actuators generate millinewton‐scale forces and millimeter‐scale strokes while remaining functional for over 30 days. Their force density is 20‐fold higher than 3D skeletal muscle actuators, enabling multi‐fin robots with tunable speed and multidirectional steering.

Role of Cardiac Imaging in Evaluating Risk for Sudden Cardiac Death

open access: yes, 2017
Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is a major cause of death from cardiovascular disease. Our ability to predict patients at the highest risk of developing lethal ventricular arrhythmias remains limited.

Multimodality imaging for cardiac lymphoma

open access: yes, 2019
We were very impressed with the work of Shikuma et al. in their approach to this tumor, with unusual appearance, later proved to be cardiac lymphoma comprising large B cells. We also advocate for utilising multiple imaging modalities in such an instance.

Guanosine‐Quadruplex Hydrogels as Dynamic, Mechanically Tunable and Ion Conductive 3D Scaffolds for Cell Culture Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Versatile guanosine‐quadruplex (GQ) hydrogels are developed as dynamic biomatrices for cell culture. These scaffolds are fabricated under mild aqueous conditions, present improved stability, tunable mechanical properties within physiological ranges; fibrillar, porous microstructure, ion conductivity, and cytocompatibility.

Targeting CD300a Signaling With a Phosphatidylserine‐Presenting Hydrogel Rescues Macrophage Dysfunction and Accelerates Diabetic Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of the proposed mechanism: PEG/RGD‐PSLs mimic apoptotic cells to engage PS receptors (notably CD300a), transducing an inhibitory signal that suppresses the MyD88/NF‐κB pathway, leading to global anti‐inflammatory and pro‐reparative effects.
