A 22-year-old woman who had a history of three cardiac operations and a bilateral femoral embolectomy for recurrent cardiac myxoma and myxoma embolism, respectively, was accepted to our clinic with multiple immobile peripheral masses. One of them was compressing the left common femoral artery. This mass was extirpated.

Radiological characteristics of atrial myxoma in Cardiac Computed Tomography
BACKGROUND: Although the primary role of Cardiac Computed Tomography (CCT) is assessment of the coronary arteries, the technique also allows detailed examination of cardiac structures and other cardiac pathologies including cardiac myxoma.

Brain Metastasis of Cardiac Myxoma: Case Report and Review of the Literature
Cardiac myxoma is the most common benign heart tumor. Cardiac myxoma can be a sporadic lesion (93% of cases) and usually occurs in women over 30 years. Complete surgical removal of the myxoma and its cardiac attachment is usually curative.

Thirty-five patients (10 men and 25 women) with a preoperative diagnosis of cardiac myxoma have undergone cardiac surgery since 1964 at the University of Louvain. The mean age of the patients was 49 (range 20–75) years. The most commonly encountered symptoms were: dyspnoea 49%; thoracic pain 26%; cough and peripheral embolism 17% each; stroke and ...

Ten patients with cardiac myxoma were reviewed. The ranged from 23 months to 60 years old. Echocardiography was the most helpful noninvasive diagnostic technique. The tumor was demonstrated by angiocardiography, left atrial myxomas frequently migrating to the left ventricle in diastole.

Atypical cardiac myxomas are a rare occurrence and may present with a variety of clinical manifestations depending on the morphology and location. We present three cases of myxomas located atypically on the left atrial appendage ridge, chordae of the mitral valve, and right atrium. Echocardiography plays a prominent role in the diagnosis and follow‐up

Myxomas, particularly left-atrial myxomas, are the most common primary tumors of the heart that cardiac surgeons will be called upon to remove. Although some tumors are discovered incidentally during echocardiographic examination, many produce symptoms caused by the release of inflammatory cytokines, obstruction to intracardiac blood flow, and/or ...

Infected cardiac myxomas are extremely rare with only forty cases described in the literature. We report a case of an infected cardiac myxoma that presented in a manner similar to bacterial endocarditis. Our case is the first to be diagnosed using previously defined criteria, and is unusual in that transesophageal echocardiography was required to make

The nature of the cardiac myxoma
International Journal of Cardiology, 1996Ten archive cases of cardiac myxoma were evaluated for proliferative activity, metastatic potential and expression of oncogene/tumor suppressor gene products by means of PCNA, MIB1, nm23, p53, Bcl-2 and Rb-1 immunohistochemistry. The myxomas showed variable proliferative activity (PCNA 0-41%, average 12.6%, MIB1 0-13%, average 3.2%) contrasting with ...

Although cardiac myxomas remain an uncommon group of malignancies, they are the most common form of primary cardiac tumour. Clinical presentations can be varied with local cardiac haemodynamic consequences, valvular insufficiency or even embolic phenomena.
