Implantable cardiac monitor and leadless pacemaker in the management of syncope due to intermittent high-degree atrioventricular block: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery
Background Lead dislodgements, tricuspid valve failure, and wound infections are prominent issues addressed by leadless pacemakers (LPM). These devises have emerged as viable alternatives to conventional transvenous pacemakers.

The difficult discussion on the deactivation of implantable cardioverter devices at the end of life: a systematic review

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 733-760, April 2025.
Abstract Implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) reliably prevent death due to life‐threatening arrhythmias; this may become less relevant in people with more severe heart failure who are reaching the end of life (EOL). This review aimed to explore the ICD deactivation process and identify ethical issues, especially around the initiation of ...

Cardiac implantable electronic device implantations in Hungary between 2021–2024

open access: yesCardiologia Hungarica
In Hungary, between 2021 and 2024, the number of cardiac implantable device implantations increased across all categories, including anti-bradycardia pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT ...

Engineered Cardiac Pacemaker Nodes Created by TBX18 Gene Transfer Overcome Source–Sink Mismatch

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2019
Every heartbeat originates from a tiny tissue in the heart called the sinoatrial node (SAN). The SAN harbors only ≈10 000 cardiac pacemaker cells, initiating an electrical impulse that captures the entire heart, consisting of billions of cardiomyocytes ...

Forecasting heart failure: Seasonal alignment of heart failure outcomes in New York

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 819-831, April 2025.
Abstract Background Seasonal variations have been observed in heart failure (HF) hospitalization. Numerous explanatory mechanisms have been proposed, but no prior studies have examined potential contributors directly. Our objective was to identify specific factors that could contribute to seasonal variability using a large longitudinal dataset of HF ...

Worsening Heart Failure due to AV Dissociation From Safety Mode in CRT‐P: A Case Requiring Urgent Generator Replacement

open access: yesAnnals of Noninvasive Electrocardiology
Boston Scientific reported that dual chamber INGENIO family pacemakers or cardiac resynchronization therapy pacemakers (CRT‐P) may initiate safety mode. Once Safety Mode is activated, telemetry with the programmer becomes unavailable.

Case Report: Exploration of pacemaker-specific disease management based on a generalist-specialist collaboration model

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine
BackgroundThe management of patients with pacemakers in the community is challenged by limited resources and the need for advanced specialty care.MethodsA remote monitoring system for pacemakers was incorporated into a generalist-specialist care model ...

Estimation of EMI Impact by Cellular Radio on Implantable Cardiac Pacemakers in Elevator Using EMF Distributions Inside Human Body [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The purpose of this study is to estimate the possible effect of cellular radio on implantable cardiac pacemakers in elevators. We previously investigated pacemaker EMI in elevator by examining the E-field distribution of horizontal plane at the height of

Incident heart failure: comparing management and outcome in primary and hospital settings in Western Sweden 2008–2017

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 832-838, April 2025.
Abstract Aim Heart failure (HF) is a highly prevalent condition managed in both primary care (PC) and hospital care (HC)‐based settings. HF patients managed in these two settings may differ in their demography, comorbidities and outcomes, so we aimed to compare the patient management in PC and HC in the Västra Götaland Region (VGR) in Sweden.

Self-Synchronizing Cardiac Pacemaker

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, 1966
A new kind of cardiac pacemaker for direct heart stimulation in cases of intermittent or variable heart block is presented. The pacemaker is capable of providing stimuli either synchronously with ventricular depolarization or at a fixed rate when natural pacing fails.
