Left-Sided Intracardiac Tumors in a Case of Widespread Vulvar Cancer

open access: yesJACC: Case Reports, 2019
Metastatic cardiac tumors associated with gynecological malignancies are rare. This report describes the case of stage-4 vulvar carcinoma that metastasized to the left ventricle of the heart. (Level of Difficulty: Intermediate.)

Multi-Task Generative Adversarial Network for Handling Imbalanced Clinical Data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
We propose a new generative adversarial architecture to mitigate imbalance data problem for the task of medical image semantic segmentation where the majority of pixels belong to a healthy region and few belong to lesion or non-health region. A model trained with imbalanced data tends to bias towards healthy data which is not desired in clinical ...

Adherent Right Atrial Cardiac Lipoma with Obstructive Symptoms: An Unusual Case Report

open access: yesHeart and Mind
Benign cardiac tumors are rare, and cardiac lipomas constitute a small proportion. Since the majority of these lipomas vary in morphology, size, clinical presentation, and diagnosis, it is difficult to diagnose them until they become symptomatic ...

Elastic free energy drives the shape of prevascular solid tumors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
It is well established that the mechanical environment influences cell functions in health and disease. Here, we address how the mechanical environment influences tumor growth, in particular, the shape of solid tumors. In an in vitro tumor model, which isolates mechanical interactions between tumor cells and a hydrogel, we find that tumors grow as ...

Time‐Controlled Dual Targeting to Program Systemic and Intercellular Transfer of Therapeutic Effects

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Aspirin‐liposomes loaded onto monocytes enable inflammation‐triggered targeting and efficient hand‐over of aspirin to inflamed cells. Monocytes uptake a significant portion of aspirin‐liposomes, prolonging therapeutic action. This approach enhances anti‐inflammatory effects through intercellular transfer, demonstrating a translational strategy for ...

Uso da ecocardiografia contrastada para avaliação de tumores e trombos Contrast echocardiography for the evaluation of tumors and thrombi

open access: yesArquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia, 2008
A ecocardiografia contrastada baseia-se na injeção endovenosa de microbolhas que são marcadores de fluxo sangüíneo e aumentam o sinal ultra-sonográfico.

Shape‐Reconfigurable Crack‐Based Strain Sensor with Ultrahigh and Tunable Sensitivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A highly sensitive crack‐based sensor with tunable strain detection capabilities is demonstrated through controlled nanocrack formation in a line‐patterned shape memory polymer substrate. The sensor design integrates thermoplastic polyurethane and poly(lactic acid), enabling thermo‐responsive reconfiguration of crack geometry.

Cardiac Computed Tomography as a Method of Diagnosing the Type of Cardiac Tumor—Example of Interatrial Septal Lipoma Filling the Right Atrium

open access: yesDiagnostics
Cardiac tumors present substantial diagnostic challenges due to their diverse manifestations and similarity to other cardiac pathologies. Cardiac lipomas are rare tumors that originate from adipose cells and can develop in any location within the heart ...
