Ultrasound cardiac calcium assessment
Heart, 2014Dear Editor ; We congratulate the authors Kalsch et al , for their interesting paper1 which demonstrates that aortic valve calcification (AVC) by CT builds on Framingham score for risk stratification of future cardiovascular events. These are important data for preventive strategies, obtained in a wide and prospective study of healthy asymptomatics ...

Ultrasound of Fetal Cardiac Anomalies
American Journal of Roentgenology, 2011Fetal cardiac anomalies are common, with half of them being lethal or requiring complex surgeries. Early detection of these anomalies enables early referral to tertiary care centers with adequate expertise. A routine antenatal ultrasound performed between 18 and 22 weeks enables detection of most of these malformations. Further comprehensive evaluation

Anthropomorphic cardiac ultrasound phantom
Proceedings., IEEE Ultrasonics Symposium, 1989A new phantom is described which simulates the human cardiac anatomy for applications in ultrasound imaging, ultrasound Doppler, and color-flow Doppler imaging. The phantom consists of a polymer left ventricle which includes a prosthetic mitral and aortic valve and is connected to a mock circulatory loop.

Milestones in cardiac ultrasound: echoes from the past
The International Journal of Cardiac Imaging, 1993Although the antecedents of cardiac ultrasound can be traced back to the 1870s, it was in 1954 that Edler and Hertz published their milestone paper. M-mode echocardiography reached its peak in the early 1970s, when the fibre-optic recorder made the method clinically viable. It was not long before real-time two-dimensional imaging was developed, however,

Many of the structures forming the fetal heart can be identified by cross-sectional ultrasound screening from as early as 14 weeks’ gestation. The vaginal probe is most useful at this stage but the abdominal approach with a high resolution transducer will also display the cardiac connections in the majority of patients.
