The Cardinal Temperatures and pH Response of Thielaviopsis Basicola
Mycologia, 1955The severity of black root rot of tobacco, caused by Thielaviopsis basicola (Berk. and Br.) Ferr., is influenced markedly by soil tempera? ture and pH. Field studies by Johnson and Hartman (5) indicated the occurrence of the disease is determined primarily by soil tempera? ture. Valleau et al.

A hydrothermal time model explains the cardinal temperatures for seed germination
Plant, Cell & Environment, 2002AbstractTemperature (T) and water potential (y) are two primary environmental regulators of seed germination. Seeds exhibit a base or minimum T for germination (Tb), an optimum T at which germination is most rapid (To), and a maximum or ceiling T at which germination is prevented (Tc).

Cardinal temperatures for germination and early growth of two Lesquerella species
Industrial Crops and Products, 2007Lesquerella (Lesquerella fendleri) is a potential alternative crop that is being studied for commercial oilseed production. Understanding the minimum temperatures for germination and seedling growth is important for determining potential areas for lesquerella production.

A cardinal temperature-based phenotyping method for rice
2010Rice is one of the major food crops in the world. It is characterized by a wide diversity of growing conditions through latitude and altitude. Temperature is one of the most important factors determining plant growth, development and yield. In the context of climate change, thermal constraint (cold and chilling) could highly affect rice production.

Prediction of the microbial growth rate as a response to changing temperatures is an important aspect in the control of food safety and food spoilage. Accurate model predictions of the microbial evolution ask for correct model structures and reliable parameter values with good statistical quality.

This paper addresses three issues relating to development in wheat. Whether thermal amplitude changes rates of leaf appearance and phenological development, whether the responses of leaf appearance to a wide range of temperature can be acceptably described in terms of rates and cardinal (base and optimum) temperatures, and whether similar rates and ...

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1993
A new model for the prediction of microbial-specific growth rate as a function of temperature is presented. The four parameters of this model are the three cardinal temperatures (Tmax, Tmin and Topt) and the specific growth rate at the optimum temperature (mu opt).

Cardinal temperatures for seed germination of three Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) cultivars
2017Quinoa (Chenepodium quinoa Willd.) is a grain-like crop which has a high potential of crop yield under arid environments. The objective of this study was to evaluate the responses of seed germination rate and percentage to temperatures and estimate cardinal temperatures in three quinoa cultivars (i.e., Sajama, Titicaca and Santamaria).
