Counting the number of unique items in a data set is of interest in many applications. For example, the owner of a web property benefits from knowing the number of unique visitors to their site, the number of unique people that a certain advertisement ...

Selected problems in cardinality estimation [PDF]
Cardinality estimation remains a critical task in query processing. Query optimizers rely on the accuracy of cardinality estimates when generating execution plans, and, in approximate query answering, estimated cardinalities affect the quality of query ...

A Case of Multiple Mitochondrial Dysfunctions Syndrome 1 and Review of the Literature
ABSTRACT Multiple mitochondrial dysfunctions syndrome 1 (MMDS1, MIM #605711) due to NFU1 gene defects is an ultra‐rare autosomal recessive inborn error of metabolism associated with reduced function of NFU1 iron–sulfur cluster (ISC) scaffold protein.

Classification of braces of cardinality $p^4$
We classify nilpotent pre-Lie rings of cardinality $p^4$ and thereby braces of the same cardinality, for a sufficiently large prime $p$. It has been shown that nilpotent pre-Lie rings of cardinality $p^n$ correspond to strongly nilpotent braces of the ...

Nothing to See Here: Researching Non‐Recent Child Abuse in Schools and the Politics of Silence
ABSTRACT While institutions, including schools, have responsibilities to protect children from harm, responses to instances of child sexual abuse have often exhibited avoidance and denial. Recent public inquiries in Australia revealed that some institutions, particularly in the Catholic sector, employed a deliberate strategy of silence which was used ...

Objective Dysarthria is one of the most common and disabling side effects of subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN‐DBS) in Parkinson's disease (PD). Stimulation often exacerbates speech dysfunction beyond the effects of PD progression, likely because of current spread to structures surrounding the STN.

ntCard: a streaming algorithm for cardinality estimation in genomics data
Motivation: Many bioinformatics algorithms are designed for the analysis of sequences of some uniform length, conventionally referred to as k‐mers. These include de Bruijn graph assembly methods and sequence alignment tools.

Because it's there! Why some children count, rather than infer numerical relationships. [PDF]
Two experiments are described that investigate the ability to infer the number of items in oneto- one corresponding sets for two age groups. We assess the influence of set-size, the visibility of sets, and the way in which set equivalence is derived ...

The number of (0,1) - Matrices with fixed row and column sums
Let R and S be non-negative and non-increasing vectors of order m and n respectively. We consider the set A(R, S) of all m x n matrices with entries restricted to {0, 1}.
