Cardiomegaly Following Extensive Burns

One of our patients had been recovering from prolonged illness for about eight months following extensive deep burns of the lower limbs, along with other complications, when he had a sudden attack of acute dyspnea with orthopnea. The cause of this condition was diagnosed as secondary hypodynamic cardiomyopathy.

Spontaneous “Cardiomegaly” Following Pericardiectomy

A 64-year-old woman presented eight days following pericardiectomy with a 2-day history of progressive dyspnea and new crushing chest pain. Chest x-ray revealed development of interval "cardiomegaly." Bedside echocardiography revealed a large accumulation of pericardial fluid despite absence of pericardium. Cardiomegaly in neonatal hypoglycemia

Chest X-rays of 24 hypoglycemic newborns were compared with those of a matched control group of newborns with normal blood glucose levels. In the hypoglycemic group heart size was found to be significantly greater than in the control group. No correlation could be established between the degree of cardiomegaly and the severity of hypoglycemia.

[Extreme cardiomegaly].

We report the case of 65 year old male patient with extreme heart enlargement. The patient was admitted to the hospital due to acute bleeding from varicose veins of the cardia. The endoscopic treatment by means of hemostatic clips and fibrine was successful. However the patient died two weeks later without having any complaints.
