370 Epicardial adipose tissue and cardiometabolic health in youth-onset type 2 diabetes undergoing vertical sleeve gastrectomy

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Translational Science, 2023
OBJECTIVES/GOALS: The goal of this study is to investigate the potential independent relationship between epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) and cardiometabolic health in youth-onset type 2 diabetes (T2D) and explore changes in EAT as a potential mediator ...

Visceral and dysfunctional adiposity indexes: Relationship with cardiometabolic risk

open access: yes, 2023
Objective: Obesity is a worldwide disease in which visceral obesity is related to increased cardiometabolic risk. The aim of this study was to estimate the associative capacity of visceral adiposity index and dysfunctional adiposity index on cardiometabolic risk in the working population.

Rheumatoid Arthritis and Coronary Artery Calcium Progression: A Case Cohort Analysis from ELSA‐Brasil

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective To investigate the association between rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and coronary artery calcium (CAC) prevalence, incidence, and progression over four years in adults without prior cardiovascular disease. Methods A case‐cohort study within ELSA‐Brasil included 585 participants (86 RA, 499 controls). Longitudinal analyses were restricted to those

The dietary inflammatory index and cardiometabolic parameters in US firefighters

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
IntroductionDietary choices play a crucial role in influencing systemic inflammation and the eventual development of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). The Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII®) is a novel tool designed to assess the inflammatory potential of one’s diet.

Validation of the Sleep Regularity Index in Older Adults and Associations with Cardiometabolic Risk [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
AbstractSleep disturbances, including insufficient sleep duration and circadian misalignment, confer risk for cardiometabolic disease. Less is known about the association between the regularity of sleep/wake schedules and cardiometabolic risk. This study evaluated the external validity of a new metric, the Sleep Regularity Index (SRI), among older ...

Single‐Cell Metabolic Imaging and Digital Scoring of Fat Tissue Remodeling by Label‐Free Metabolic Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mid‐infrared optoacoustic microscopy (MiROM) acquires lipid‐ and protein‐ associated vibrational contrast in intact fat tissue without dyes, preserving native tissue architecture. Through lateral and axial segmentation, MiROM tracks intrinsic intracellular changes during postnatal remodeling. A quantitative spatial analysis tool (Q‐SAT) maps white‐ and

Recent Trends in Metabolomics by NMR Spectroscopy

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
AI tools were applied to analyze more than 5 000 publications indexed in Scopus (2018–2025), identifying key trends and research directions in NMR‐based metabolomics. The artificial intelligence‐assisted workflow classified papers into six main fields of application, human health, food and nutrition, veterinary science, plants, environment, and ...

A Central Somatic Transmission Mediates Proprioceptive Facilitation of Muscle Pain

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Zhang et al. uncover a novel central mechanism for persistent muscle pain, in which TRPA1 sensitization in MeV proprioceptive neurons enhances somatic secretion. This, in turn, disinhibits descending pain control from neighboring noradrenergic locus coeruleus neurons via local GABAergic circuits, thereby promoting inflammatory muscle pain.
