Exercise prehabilitation for brain health and sensory–cognitive function: Mechanistic insights into brain–body interactions

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract This mini review article presents a novel hypothesis for extending exercise prehabilitation into the domains of brain health and cognition. Whilst prehabilitation has been gaining popularity in cancer treatment, conferring significant positive benefits to numerous physiological indicators, including post‐operative infection and hospital length

Exercise and cardiorespiratory fitness

Ergonomics, 1986
This study describes the relation between types and frequency of exercises and cardiopulmonary fitness. Of the 255 subjects studied, 69 (27·1%) were non-exercisers, 66 (25·9%) exercised 1 to 2 times/week, 82 (32·1%) exercised 3 to 4 times/week and 38 (14·9%) exercised 5 to 7 times/week.

Exercise Testing for Cardiorespiratory Fitness

Sports Medicine, 1984
The best available assessment of aerobic capacity is measurement of the consumption of oxygen at maximal dynamic effort. When carefully administered, this measurement is remarkably reproducible. Major sources of error in obtaining this measurement include improper gas collection apparatus, inaccurate flow meters, and failure to correct for water ...
