Pulmonary Function Outcomes in Children Undergoing Diaphragmatic Plication After Phrenic Nerve Palsy Secondary to Cardiac Surgery: A 10‐Year Case Series

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 10, October 2025.
This 10‐year retrospective case series evaluated mid‐term pulmonary outcomes in children who underwent diaphragmatic plication for phrenic nerve palsy following cardiac surgery. The results reveal a restrictive ventilatory pattern and consistent post‐exercise oxygen desaturation, despite preserved functional walking capacity.

In‐Flight Deterioration Occurs Early in Aeromedical Trauma Patients

open access: yesEmergency Medicine Australasia, Volume 37, Issue 5, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Reliably defining the risk of adverse in‐flight events in aeromedical trauma patients could enable more informed pre‐departure treatment and guide central asset allocation to achieve better system‐level outcomes. Unfortunately, the current literature base specifically examining the in‐flight period is sparse.

Smoking Promotes AT2 Cell Senescence and Exacerbates Pulmonary Fibrosis by Downregulating POT1 via Integratively Inducing CpG Methylation and MECP2‐Mediated FOXP2 Transcriptional Binding Inhibition

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 10, October 2025.
Smoking is one of the major causes of pulmonary fibrosis (PF), and treatment options for PF are limited. We show that POT1 is decreased in PF patients and mice, especially in smoke exposure, and investigate its contributions to PF progression from protecting AT2 cell senescence to fibrosis. AAV9‐mediated restoration of POT1 prevents PF.
