Mercury induced cardiovascular abnormalities in the chicken

Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 1977
Juvenile chickens were either chronically exposed to 300 microgram/ml of Hg in the drinking water (chronic dosage--CD) or acutely exposed to either 3 mg of Hg/kg body wt (acute low dosage--ALD) or 12 mg of Hg/kg body wt (acute high dosage--AHD) administered intramuscularly for five consecutive days. Only the CD and AHD treatments retarded normal growth.

Cardiovascular Abnormalities in Sleep-Disordered Breathing

Seminars in Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, 2003
The role of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) in the development of persistent daytime pulmonary hypertension (PH) and cor pulmonale is controversial and has not been extensively studied. In this review we discuss the physiological changes that occur during SDB in the cardiovascular system, as well as review the most recent literature examining the ...

Cardiovascular abnormalities in the marfanoid hypermobility syndrome

Arthritis & Rheumatism, 1976
Two patients are described who had the body habitus of the Marfan syndrome, cutaneous hyperextensibility, and atrophic "cigarette paper" scars. One had mild joint hypermobility and the other had generalized ligamentous laxity. Both individuals are considered to be examples of the Marfanoid hypermobility syndrome, a generalized heritable connective ...

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Cardiovascular Abnormalities

Chest, 1973
During a period of seven years, a diagnosis of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome was made in 44 patients. The cases were studied with particular reference to involvement of the cardiovascular system. Fifteen patients had cardiac abnormalities and one patient had a vascular anomaly. There were two cases of atrial septal defect, one case of aortic incompetence, one

Cardiovascular abnormalities in sepsis.

New horizons (Baltimore, Md.), 1994
The cardiovascular response in sepsis is the result of subcellular dysfunction and impaired metabolism from the complex interaction of cytokine and mediator with cellular involvement. The typical cardiovascular abnormalities seen are tachycardia, hypotension (relative decrease in preload), increased cardiac index, decrease in left ventricular stroke ...

Cardiovascular abnormalities in patients with a carcinoid syndrome.

The Netherlands journal of medicine, 2002
Heart failure is an important reason for morbidity and mortality in patients with carcinoid. Carcinoid heart disease is caused by increased levels of circulating serotonin. Because carcinoids also produce catecholamines, we evaluated cardiovascular manifestations of autonomic dysfunction in patients with a carcinoid syndrome.Twenty patients with a ...
