Association between O-GlcNAc transferase activity and major adverse cardiovascular events: findings from the China PEACE-MPP cohort

open access: yesBMC Cardiovascular Disorders
Background The O-GlcNAc transferase (OGT) levels are closely related to the O-GlcNAcylation of proteins and are also associated with cardiovascular disease. This study explored the association between OGT activity and major adverse cardiovascular events (

Regional differences in triacylglycerol synthesis in adipose tissue and in cultured preadipocytes.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1993
The initial suspicion that obesity increases coronary risk has been much sharpened with the demonstration that risk is more tightly linked to abdominal than to peripheral obesity, and tighter yet again when the mass of omental adipose tissue is taken ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Prevention of cardiovascular diseases

open access: yesBMC Medicine, 2015
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the most important cause of premature death and disability globally. Much is known of the main aetiological risk factors, including elevated blood pressure, dyslipidaemia and smoking, with a raft of additional risks of increasing prevalence, such as obesity and diabetes.

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.

Metabolic response of Acylation Stimulating Protein to an oral fat load.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1989
Acylation Stimulating Protein (ASP) is a small (mol wt 14,000), basic (pI 9.0) protein present in human plasma. When examined in vitro with normal human cultured skin fibroblasts and adipocytes, ASP appears to be the most potent stimulant of triglyceride

Summarizing 2019 in Cardiovascular Prevention using the Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease’s ‘ABC’s Approach

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Preventive Cardiology, 2020
In 2019, Preventive Cardiology welcomed many exciting discoveries that improve our ability to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) nationwide. Not only did 2019 further clarify how various environmental exposures and innate and acquired risk

Flavanols and cardiovascular disease prevention [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Heart Journal, 2010
Diet is a major lifestyle factor in the primary and secondary prevention of numerous chronic diseases, including myocardial infarction, stroke, and diabetes. Epidemiological studies suggest that the beneficial cardiovascular health effects of diets rich in fruits and vegetables are in part mediated by their flavonoid content, with particular benefits ...

Asian Cohort Studies on Cardiovascular Risk Factors in Childhood [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Long-term cohort studies have shown that cardiovascular risk factors measured during childhood were associated with levels of adult cardiovascular risk factors and also with the lifetime risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD).
