Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Setting improvement priorities: Importance-Performance-Analysis in care pathways for integrated care

open access: yesInternational Journal of Integrated Care, 2019
Introduction: Care pathways are tools to coordinate and integrate care. All care pathways consist of multiple interventions. Adherence to these interventions is sometimes difficult in practice, leading to variation and underuse of care.

Resistance-promoting effects of ependymoma treatment revealed through genomic analysis of multiple recurrences in a single patient [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
As in other brain tumors, multiple recurrences after complete resection and irradiation of supratentorial ependymoma are common and frequently result in patient death.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

The double burden of severe mental illness and cancer: a population-based study on colorectal cancer care pathways from screening to end-of-life care

open access: yesEpidemiology and Psychiatric Sciences
Aims Cancer is one of the main causes of death in persons with severe mental illness (SMI). Although their cancer incidence is similar, or sometimes even potentially lower compared to the general population, their cancer mortality remains higher.

The strategy of development and implementation of care pathway: literature review

open access: yesInternational Journal of Integrated Care, 2019
Background: The literature review on the implementation of care pathways is very diverse, there are active implementation and passive implementation. Therefore, the best strategy of implementation of the care pathway is still unclear.

Can remote STI/HIV testing and eClinical Care be compatible with robust public health surveillance? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper we outline the current data capture systems for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and sexually transmitted infection (STI) surveillance used by Public Health England (PHE), and how these will be affected by the introduction of novel ...

Care pathways are complex interventions in complex systems: New European Pathway Association framework

open access: yesInternational Journal of Care Coordination, 2019
Care pathway implementation is characterised by a dual complexity. A care pathway itself represents a complex intervention with multiple interacting and interdependent intervention components and outcomes.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Obesity care pathway

open access: yesNature Precedings, 2010
AbstractThis paper recognises that obesity is a growing problem within the UK with Britain with one of the highest rates for overweight children in Europe and with one in three adults predicted to be obese by 2012. Within the UK, nearly 25 per cent of men and women are now obese which has created enormous implications for health service providers (NICE,
